Just after the penalty on friday night, an argument kicked off between a few reds fans next to me. The cause being that a few lads on the row behind who'd obviously had a few before the game were shouting abuse at the team and the guy in front had just about enough of it and said something back. The abuse that they were shouting was along the lines of "Bree tha f**ing useless", "gerrim off" "Hourahane tha can't pass water". Only a lot more abusive. They also had prolonged rants about the style of play etc. This greatly saddens me, we have a young manager and a young squad who never give anything but 100%, playing a style of football that is entertaining to watch, gained us promotion last season and got us off to a wonderful start this season. What do these people want? A return to the dire defensive football we saw last time we were in the Championship, that relied on journeyman players who basically couldn't give a toss about Barnsley? Just get behind the team (winning or losing) and be what you're supposed to be - supporters - and support the team. I feel better for getting that off my chest.
Sadly, that attitude spills over onto here at times too. Slag the players off when we lose and play badly, remain silent when we win and play well. There's an example this morning, which I commented on, and of course the usual culprit appeared to spend most to the weekend doing it. I've had my share of moans recently, particularly about the admission prices, but I agree that the current squad is good enough, committed enough and hard-working enough to do OK.
Amazes me that some people go to so many games but learn so little. There are the ones that put the boot in when we lose but don't praise when we win. There are also ones that think the club is out to rip us all off. They think that the disparity in finances is just an excuse that we use for not winning every game, and not signing the players they'd like. I saw a post on facebook yesterday about how poor Jackson is, and how we should bring back Moncur to replace him. . . . I rest my case. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
If you read most of Hemsworth Tyke's post's you will see you don't need to be hammered to constantly spew bile about the team.
Yes, why do they bother to go? I fully understand the frustration and I'm sure I feel it just as much as they do, but there's no point slagging everybody off and being so negative. I'm not saying that there is no place for constructive criticism but that certainly wasn't it.
Not only do they go, but some make a point playing the "home and away card" as if that somehow makes their opinions more valid. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
I've got no problem with people having opinions and expressing them constructively. What I do object to is the mindless abusing of a set of lads who are giving everything for the club. We are who we are and we'll never be a Man U.
A bloke I know came over to mither us with similar ramblings at half-time. I told him that in a crowd of many thousands he must have been the only one to have such a poor opinion of Hourihane and Bree. His reply was that they were "all saying the same" where he sits. I have great sympathy for anyone who sits within earshot of this bilge week-in week-out.
On my way out of the ground on Friday night, I heard a group slagging Hecky off and saying they hoped he got the sack in the morning ! There's no hope for idiots I'm afraid!
We swapped seats a few years back for that reason. We'd been in the same ones for about 15yrs but the company deteriorated so we moved. Thankfully were now in the middle of a like minded lot. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
There's a bloke who sits around me always moaning. His favourites to get on their backs are bree and josh scowern. But no one is safe and I mean no one!. Funny thing is last season I remember him saying "promotion no chance were not good enough" at the chesterfield game and look how that one panned out.
We had to do the same about 4 years back. There were a whole family behind us and they were all as thick as ****. Constantly spouting garbage. We had enough in the end and moved.
They might have been the same group slagging him off up Oakwell Hill after the game. They were calling him the cheap option and saying BFC never learn. What short memories and a complete lack of loyalty some fans have.
Our fan base just reflects the community as a whole. There are some intelligent, friendly folk who go to watch the team (let's not forget them) and then there are moronic idiots who have no brain cells and can't construct a rational argument and have memory spans worse than goldfish. Nothing wrong whatsoever in criticising the team but if it's not constructive or just abusive it does no good whatsoever apart from the moronic goldfish who spouts it gets some short-term attention out of it....
This "cheap option" thing just shows how little some fans know about our club and finances in relation to others. We're Barnsley fc. We live within our means, and the last time we went for the "expensive option" we nearly went bust. Besides that, I can't recall anyone calling hecky the cheap option last season or for a good part of this. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
