...but if you've got no charisma whatsoever, I don't think you can realistically expect to fulfil that potential. Just watching the Chelsea manager's interview after their 6-0 mauling. It's like watching paint dry. There's a reason Pep and Klopp do so well, and we've seen it with Wagner and even in Barnsley now with Stendel who is always animated and creates those proper relationships with players. Glad we've got Daniel.
I like Herr Daniel too and I know he looks in real pain when trying to conduct an interview in English but I get the impression he's not exactly a Bob Monkhouse when it comes to personalities.
I've met him a couple of times and I've spoken to him in German. He's got a great sense of humour and is well-spoken and friendly, and he obviously knows a lot about the game. He also knows not to give too much away when speaking to fans. His English is improving all the time but I still giggle when I hear him asking colleagues, in German, how to say certain things. He's one of the stars of our club at the moment and we need to move heaven and earth to keep him at the club for years to come.
I don't know whether it's just me but when I see Stendel in interviews I get a real sense of warmth from him. He comes across as a really genuine guy. I like his humility too.
It's a funny old game. Sometimes it's really obvious why managers are good, other times not so much. It's usually easy to tell a crap manager though and sometimes it's really not *that much* to do with the manager, the team just 'works'.
