No way would I take the Leeds keeper in exchange. He was the difference between the 2 sides today and very poor indeed
I think the few who have criticised Davies will regret it next season. I reckon a lot of Leeds fans would have swapped for Davo tonight.
Leeds goaly was crap. Davies has been as bad over three years in different ways. I quantify my judgement by seeing Clive Baker drop more or less one ****** a season. Davies has had a dozen a season. This season overall fantastic vast improvement.
Clive's problem was he wasnt the tallest and now and again he had issues on the crossed ball. A bit of butterfingers didnt harm his career though, played at Ipswich for a while after us.
Update on my walk: Yesterday I walked 55 miles, ate 3 lambs, drank 28 pints of Black Sheep and slept in a cave on Whernside for 47 hours.
Watching the season recap yesterday was a reminder of what a massive season Davies has just had and how big a miss he's going to be.
Davies was very good this season. And terrible the one before. But apparently people who acknowledge he was poor that season have an agenda. Weird.
I don't think so. He's had two promotion seasons where he was excellent. One good/decent season in the Championship and one poor one where he was getting little protection. I'll freely admit he had a poor season then. I think there are some for whom he can do no right. Not saying that's you. I'd be very pleased to see him start next season with us as long as we have adequate back up. He's a good keeper.
One season in championship responsible for two goals at Ipswich lost 4 1 and two against forest on sky plus numerous others without me being able to check
I think most of us can agree that he had a poor season second time in the Championship. There are some reasons for that which are down to confidence and playing behind a poor side and he would definitely have benefited by being rested for a while. The rest of the time he has played for us he has been good and was clearly one of the better L1 keepers this season, and on the evidence of yesterday he certainly wont be the worst keeper in the championship next year - whoever he is playing for. I hope he stays and think its likely if he doesnt we will be worse off next season but for some people a poor season means you are finished forever
One of? Head and shoulders above the rest in my view. Nothing against the lad at Exeter, I’m sure he’s quite a good goalkeeper, but if he is the replacement, or at least him and Walton to compete, then I have to admit that I’d be quite concerned as Davies has been a standout performer and will be missed, especially stepping up a level.
I think everyone has praised him this season, some of the saves he's made were ridiculous and he's gained us a lot of points. But I aint sure we would be worse off yano. what if its the clubs decision to not offer him a new contract? Shot stopping he's faultless, Commanding his area he has improved massively on over the last 3 months. But in this modern way of football a keeper is now expected to be good with the ball at his feet which in reality Davies isn't at all. This isn't me having a dig at Davies in any way, but I am just pointing out that he may not fit into this new way of football Stendel wants to play here and its maybe the hierarchy's decision to move him on and bring in someone who can play it out from the back. I would expect Davies to sign for Stoke in the coming days and a foreign keeper shortly filling his departure.
You are probably right and he had a great season - but I haven't seen enough of the other keepers to state that with certainty Davies has improved again this season and the way he deals with one on ones is miles better than say Casilias who had no idea how to make himself big. He has always been a good shot stopper but his overall game is significantly better than it was a couple of seasons ago. Just still needs to improve on crosses - if he can do that he could play in the Prem
Yes, I think it’s a shame that we’ve probably seen the last of him in a tarn shirt as I think he’s developed into a very good goalkeeper and is still improving too. Let’s hope the spreadsheet pulls a rabbit out of the hat.
Correct. But the bloke said 'a dozen a season'. Nobody is saying he's Lev Yashin but the consistency he's shown over four out of the last five seasons is remarkable. Particularly for a bloke with 8 or so good years ahead of him. The stick he gets is just pathetic.
