Begins to look as though this was the inspiration for our current successful strategy? If that's the case it was a great strategy to use such a powerful transferrable idea. And it looks like we can expect it to continue, but with more financial clout to resist the bigger clubs and capitalise on any success we may enjoy. Can we expect meaningful conversations in The Mount about synergy and sabermetrics?
Did cross my mind before, but didn't think they'd try and base a strategy off of Hollywood. Shows how much I pay attention, thought it was just a film, not real-life!
I think this was the inspiration https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp....ute-champions-league-brentford-matthew-benham My mind could be playing tricks but i think it was discussed on Patricks Facebook page.
As opposed to whether they have a "good face for the game" On a more serious point I bet Hecky and the clubs current formulae for recruitment could have been a factor in attracting these guys. Or maybe Mr Cryne Jnr. who got so much stick for his spread sheets phoned them up 3 years ago and developed a good relationship with them. I'll bet a pound to a penny theres a back story here worth at least a spot on inside out.
patrick in his message in the programme did elude to "one day ill maybe tell you how we did it" (speaking of our promotion and double wembley trip year)...oh yes its got Hollywood written all over it! They could call it "pit ball" (see what i did there?) and we want jonny depp for hecky and brad cooper and the rock for errrr others...lets get rachel weiss ....salma hyek....ok ill shut up!!
I really hope (but doubt) Patrick has had the chance to write his memoirs He is so eloquent in his words and some of his anecedotes and tales on Facebook were brilliant. He has so much more to give and is supremely insightful. The story of how tarn used a spreadsheet to go from bottom of league one to Wembley twice and promotion could be the next Full Monty...sort of!!!
I hope so too, but I suspect he's kept diaries and something would be done posthumously. He may even be writing it himself now.
Moneyball is on Sony Movies 01.25 Monday morning I can't wait for Moneyball 2 - wonder who will play Hecky?
