Think it’s called the old picture house now Looking at booking a function room but not heard any feedback from anyone
Called E6 Bar now not been personally but heard good things. As for the old picture house name, it was actually the 1st cinema in Barnsley think they called it The Electric Cinema. In the early 80's I used to walk on Eastgate to work and the original name was still on the front gable end, albeit very flaky but you could make it out. Thats if we're talking about the same place of course.
Was 'Electric Theatre' wasn't it? Was something to do with Barnsley college, but then they turned it into the union student bar when the college started offering higher education as well as further education. - I think.
you could well be right about theatre not cinema, Shaun, but it was the 1st place to show films in Barnsley
Found this: The Barnsley Electric Theatre opened on 11th March 1911 and was purpose built as a cinema. It was built by London and General Electric Theatres. There was an 18 feet wide proscenium. The Electric Theatre was closed by May 1938 (when it’s Cinematograph Licence was not re-newed). In 1952 the building was being used by Barnsley College of Technology as a gym and exam centre. In 1985 it had been renovated and was in use as the Electric Theatre Studios, for students studying drama, and performances were held in the building. It later became a bar for students at the College of Art & Design, and this was closed in 2000. In 2002 it was converted into a nightclub and this now operates as the Citrus Rooms. It’s smart mate, I went in the other week cos I know the guy that runs it and he wanted to talk about potential live music gigs. Would definitely recommend hiring it out for a function
