9 years ago, and the Blunts still not had their compensation for this. System stinks. Seriously, one of the biggest football injustices in football, and all because the ref gave a yellow card.
I was in Germany listening to the match commentary on Barnsley Player, as I think it was called in those days, on my laptop. I remember the roar from the crowd as the challenge went in. I don't think I've heard such a sound before or since. Totally different to, and much louder than, the sound when we score, when we get a pen, when a pen is turned down, when a bad foul occurs, whatever. This sound was something else, something frightening, even to me 500 miles away. I knew instinctively that something terrible had happened, and sadly I was proved right. My opinion on Sheff U changed that day and has stayed the same ever since. I suspect there were some legal issues, and a financial settlement, but of course we never got to know about it because of the NDA which had almost certainly been put in place. I hope that Iain Hume got what he deserved, and Morgan too. I hope also, that one day the truth will emerge about the settlement. All the best Iain Hume.
Can't believe that this was 9 years ago. It was this incident which started my interest in BFC. I watched recordings of it on ssn and was so sickened that I took it upon myself to post on Tykesmad and offer some support towards Ian Hume and also criticism towards that thug morgan. Got speaking to some posters and got on well with them. And as I was looking for an English team to support at the time everything just fell into place. Again I still can't believe that this was 9 years ago.
Remember the game well. De Silva and Ehioug (RIP) were sent off? Think we got beat 2-1. Odejayi scored a late consolation I think.
I will always, always wish them all the worst. Until that day, I didn't really mind them. It was always Wednesday who were the shitbags. Deluded, arrogant braggarts with a history nothing like as rich as they would have you believe. I wanted us to beat United, sure, but it didn't matter as much as a game with Wednesday. Or Leeds. Yet I cannot ever imagine Sheffield Wednesday - the club - lauding a Chris Morgan over their PA system. As for the 'elbow' gestures so many Manor Top Pigs enjoy: I don't think you'd get that from Owls, either, at least not in the numbers you get at Bramall Lane. Ditto the 'One Chrissy Morgan' chant.
One thing that made it worse for me was that not long after , Morgan made a carbon copy assault on James Hayter...fortunately for Hayter he only had his nose fractured . Somewhere on my PC I've still got the screenshots of it . The next away game at Bramall Lane several thousand of their fans were singing 'there's only one Chris Morgan'....it was almost beyond belief.
Yep the attitude from that club was a disgrace regarding the incident and the aftermath. Have thought badly of them ever since, but to be fair always thought they were a set of cap ends from the Dave Bassett days. I love radio Sheffield’s coverage but to be honest their coverage was also a disgrace - very defensive of Morgan and quick to shut down barnsley fans making reasoned arguments I must say though it made that day at Bramall Lane so ******* sweet when we sent them down, probably the best away day I’ve ever had.
Maybe a question for Patrick Cryne among other questions at the next Q & A? ....... why wasn't this blatant assault pursued in court?
Me too...I particularly remember one fat soulless b*****d stood up in the corner near us making elbow gestures just before the final whistle went.....and poor old Daniel ' I was born to score goals' Leagueoneovic
If it was up to me I'd have not only taken legal action but I would have banned Morgan from Oakwell for life.
The challenge was utterly vile and typified everything Blackwell and his team were about. I'm convinced he sent them out to physically and illegally intimidate the opposition. Morgan, Ehihogu and Beattie were all using their elbows in aerial challenges. Brian Howard was on Soccer AM and was asked about Blackwell in the dressing room and he joked about him elbowing the tactics board. It was a disgrace that Morgan didn't end up in court and the way their backroom staff and fans stuck up for him was disgusting.
