The whole tenor of that article is of browbeating us to lie down and allow Sheffield to do it to us.

Sheffield City Council, Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and the Sheffield Star all coming together to tell it as it is.....call me a cynical old thing but it just sounds like HS2 all over again .
My favourite bit is " only 15 out of 20 Councils want the Yorkshire option"....well take Sheffield out as they have a particularly vested interest, and it could be read as " only 4 out of 19 Yorkshire Councils don't want the Yorkshire wide option.

My advice Marc, is that Sheffield have shafted the rest of South Yorkshire for over 30 years....a vote for the Sheffield option is that we are happy to see that continue.
It's not a party political issue...certainly in Donny where I am...in a free vote Labour, Conservative and every Independent voted to reject Sheffield.

I'm torn about this. On the one hand I don't want us to be swallowed up by Sheffield but on the other hand it's clear the council want to be part of the Yorkshire deal and i'm loathe to vote for what those self serving ******** want.

Difficult one. The Sheffield one is a **** deal the one the council wants doesn’t exist.

I don't see anything that can be called misinformation or disingenuous. There is background information as to how this current position as been reached (which is what I thought I already knew) and the vote is "I would prefer BMBC to pursue a devolution proposal with a) Wider Yorkshire or b) Sheffield City Region" . BMBC tell you that the government are keen for us to be part of the Sheffield City Region devolution arrangement rather then the Wider Yorkshire proposal that BMBC now supports. You make your choice. The wider region makes more sense to me as it would hopefully result in more joined up thinking all across the county particularly on infrastructure. At the moment only 50% of the councils involved favour the City region approach whereas 17 out of 20 councils are reported to favour a wider Yorkshire approach with Sheffield, Rotherham and Wakefield being the ones not. HOME RULE FOR YORKSHIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know nothing about this but when I read "....ONLY 15 out of 20 councils wanted..." I nearly wet myself. WTF? So around 75% isn't enough to convince them that regardless of the fact that there is currently no Yorkshire option most do not want the one that IS on the table.

To be fair to Jimmy, an agreed deal does not exist at this stage, but the various Councils have got their heads together had discussions and picked this as the way forward .
Sajid Javed is trying to railroad SCR through, but in truth Barnsley and Doncaster cross party do not want it . If everyone sticks together and Javed wants to see Devolution as he keeps saying, there will be a deal in the offing .

It’s a leap in the dark at the moment. That’s not to say with political pressure that a Yorkshire wide deal cannot be put on the table but at the moment that government are adamant is not available and that as legislation has already enacted there is no going back.

    http://www.publicfinance.co.uk/news...-deal-falls-apart-after-two-councils-pull-out

Houghton is basically hopeful that the ref will come out very much in favour of a Yorkshire wide deal and this will give the Yorkshire wide campaign leverage. It’s an unusually bold move for a ‘safe’ politician imo.
