100% spot on, the obsession some people had with signing him was unreal bearing in mind he's done nothing in the championship.
Another thread on him here. Proper toxic up there. https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/that-******-from-boro.1418779/
The best thing for his career would have been another season with Barnsley after our promotion. He's been ruined as a footballer because club(s) and player put finance before his development instead.
The thing is, we all have a soft spot for Ashley Fletcher because he was part of our promotion charge and scored in the play off final. BUT the reality is that he has NEVER proved he can cut it at championship level never mind Premier League and he perhaps joins a long long list of players who were OK in L1 but for whom that was the limit of their capabilities. Because circumstances resulted in him earning stupid money people continue to assume he must be good. Its quite possible though that he is just not up to this level and that Middlesborough and now Sunderland have been mugged off. I just don't get why people keep clamouring for him to return here, based on his form since he left us. Our blind spot for Ashley is on a par to the one we had for Hecky.
I'm not sure about Fletcher. It seems to me that West Ham and Boro have bought into potential above all else. He was good towards the end of our season in league one, as part of a fantastic side at that level, but since then? A few performances for West Ham, and off he goes to Boro for "proven striker" sort of money. Would I want us to gamble millions on bringing him back to Oakwell? I don't think so. I don't know if he's any good.
Think he’s been lead down the proverbial garden path by his agent.Think the lad needs an arm round the shoulder which Hecky did to bring the best out of him
Possibly. But then again, perhaps the agent hasn't done anything that anybody else wouldn't have done in the same circumstances. Man Utd decide to let him go. A PL team indicate they want him, his stock is high, there's not many agents who would say, nah Ashley you'd be better off at Barnsley on a grand a week. For me the most glaring issue is that a championship club, fuelled by parachute payments, thought it an acceptable investment to spunk 6 million quid plus another few million on wages on a kid who wasn't even a proven real deal.
West Ham was the wrong move for Fletcher, he was never going to get a regular run in the side at the time. He should have pushed for a transfer back to us at the start of last season, in order to carry on his momentum. Obviously money talks, yet again.
Needs a club that will start again with him The problem he’s got is Sunderland expect the finished article, look at his CV Man Utd West Ham Boro Stacks up but he’s hardly played, there’s no substitute for coaching and game time, something he would have got elsewhere, somewhere like us or similar 18 months ago. His agent needs proper sacking and quickly if he wants to be a footballer. He may be happy coining it in however
You make it sound like his agent put a gun to his head and forced him to sign. He has got a tongue in his head. He could always say no.
Yes sadly it looks that way, that this kid with great looking potential, will probably end up struggling to get above Lg One standards. Unless he changes his attitude, or his agent lol. But seriously, theres also the question as to whether he is actually good enough for this level, and if hes not then there isnt much he can do about that.
If you knew where the term manure came from in reference to Manchester United I'm guessing you wouldn't use it and if you do know you're a disgusting excuse of a football fan
Ohh wow, so thats me told isnt it lol. Does it make a difference though to me and the way I post on here..... err what do you all think.
I'm not even sure it's his attitude. Just he's hardly had a run of games since leaving us. And coming straight into a dreadful Sunderland side is hardly going to help him. Imagine if he'd come back to us at the start of last season and scored goals in a good team full of confidence, his stock now would be sky high.
