Hecky was noted for being a bit of a disciplinarian, according to some journo's. On Tuesday, there appeared to be some difference of opinion between McBurnie and the Head Coach over instructions given, with McBurnie waving his arms. There was another instance in the second half where there seemed to be disagreement between one or two of our players over who was going to take a free kick. This morning, Moore is reported in one paper as expressing an opinion that we need to switch to a more direct style. He may well be right, but I can't imagine expressing public opinions on the way our Head Coach should set up will be welcomed. There's a tough fight ahead, and a dipping of discipline among any of the players is not something that should be allowed to develop, in my view.
To be honest this was one of my biggest fears that a foreign manager would come in and the players wouldn't want to play for him. One from Tuesday night Isgrove, didn't look interesting in that first half at all but we will see in the next few games. If they cant respect a coach who has been at Madrid, Chelsea, Inter etc shows what type of characters they are
I think it could be more a case that after months of being shackled by hecky and his defensive tactics the players are now wanting to express themselves and try avoid relegation.
I reckon Hecky had them organised as best they could be, given what he had at his disposal. Our potentially more encouraging forward options only joined right at the end of his tenure. Hecky may have had more tools to have us threaten if he'd stopped. It's upfront where we've been toothless. There was a noticeable lack of organisation on Tuesday night - it was more woeful than anything seen at home this season. No sign of a new coach bounce - in fact the opposite.
With 442 he alienated moncur mallan mcgheehan mowatt and potts, this was 5 key players signed and dropped or played out of position instead of developed. When we struggled for striker options that's when you would use these type of players in their natural positions attacking midfielders and improve them not dump them. He tried in a too negative 4141 formation but he just got it wrong. The lack of striker options and defensive set up has wrecked hammills season and form. Come on Jose good riddance hecky.
I agree with that to some degree but the changes hecky made almost every game stifled us at times when we had a decent game with players in correction positions he changed it and we went back down hill again. Thiam Looked to be finding some form vs reading and Sunderland only to be dumped out of the team for 1 up front again for weeks that just wasn't working. I understand hecky wanted us to be hard to beat and have a strong shape but it was often to the detriment of any attacking intent and scuppered any chance we had of winning games.
He tried all sorts but found that the "M" people simply weren't good enough. And there was nowt up front anyway. There is no hidden magic formula for saving us, that a coach can turn to.
Flipping heck. This must be a record, even for you. Jose has been in charge for less than a week and you're already having a go at him with your claim of a perceived lack of discipline in the club since he joined. At least the new board were here a few weeks before you decided they were no good. It wasn't enough to sign six players and award the Head Coach with a new and improved contract, which he was more than happy to sign. Sorry Jose. That was your honeymoon period and it's over.
Maybe it is the teams he has managed that gives them concern ? Not the teams he has coached at ? That list does not inspire much !!
Only Mallan of that shower looks like they can play at Championship level and he looks to be towing !!
Did he actually do any coaching while at said clubs... Or did he do other duties... Maybe some of our players see things differently to what the fans are told, and are lead to believe.. Should all come out in the wash..
Jose isn’t a manager he’s the “ head coach” he’s from a coaching background what’s so difficult to understand about this ? Let’s just hope he can get us a few results cos the alternative doesn’t bear thinking about !
We’ve barely played 4-4-2 this season. Potts & Moncur have had a load of chances playing in midfield with Williams behind doing the dirty work, McGeehan had a few, Mowatt had plenty last season. None of them showed anything to suggest they deserved regular starts. This ‘defensive set up’ is ********, they just haven’t been good enough. You’re talking like we park the bus every game, throughout the season we’ve had overlapping full backs & Potts, Moncur etc have been able to go forward they’ve just not performed. Hammill was excellent for the first 6 weeks of the season he’s just not delivered since, he’s had chances to play as an out & out winger in the past few weeks & like the others hasn’t performed. He’s been that frustrated with his own performances that he’s twice had to be subbed before he got sent off. These players simply haven’t been up to it because Potts & Moncur have had the odd game out of what we’d presume is their favoured position doesn’t change the fact that they’ve not been good enough in their best position.
Football is a collective game. Good players can look rubbish in a poor side playing without confidence. When things go sour blaming individuals is pointless. That collective failure is the main reason we will be relegated. I know nothing of the coach, what kind of football he wants to play and whether the players will buy in. But I don't envy him despite his weighty pay packet. The squad is far too big.
It's clear to me that our best performances were when we played 4141 moncur and potts played centrally in front of Williams but when we started to struggle with the lone striker Bradshaw or Ugbo as they were just not good enough this started to knock on to Barnes and hammill and then to compensate this hecky reverted back to 442 to get an extra striker on but played Williams and Gardner pushing potts or moncur wide which was just a poor decision and we have struggled since. These no 10s haven't had a fair chance due to us playing in a way to compensate not having a decent striker. Now we have one and a coach who will dare to play a different way and we will improve.
