Anyone know what our average line up was when Johnson had us bottom of the table? Are the current crop any better than that despite being signed to play in a league higher?
Ooh, I remember that team. There were so many posters complaining we'd signed players from Sheffield Wednesday reserves, Plymouth, Brentford reserves, Scunthorpe, Inverness, Halifax, Doncaster, Southampton reserves, youngsters from Manchester United with little or no league experience. Some claimed it was the worst Barnsley team they'd ever seen. Others said if Hourihane & Winnall were our best players, then it proved just how bad we were, or Watkins was typical of players from Scotland, as he had no visible strengths to his game. Yet more claimed that if any of of our so called better players were interesting other clubs, they'd willingly drive them there. Another commonly used phrase was, if you didn't agree with them that these players were poor, then simply look at the league table, as tables don't lie. Ah, the good, old days!
My point wasn't so much that it was a good team then as it is that this one is awful and wouldn't compete in league one
It depends. I really doubt those making the previous comments are claiming the present collection are extremely talented. There's no doubt if Chien Lee and the board dispense with the services of Jose Morais, then all they have to do is select from the multitude of self proclaimed experts freely available on various areas of social media. Personally, I don't think the current group would struggle in Division 1. Then again, I still don't believe we'll be relegated. Although I do accept my views as a self confessed, optimistic, Happy Clapper (therefore not a real fan) carries no authority, integrity, or reason. Sorry, old mate. I'm just behaving like a humourless, old git this morning.
Well we gave a lot of those players a chance over more than a season and we haven't with this lot so it's hard to compare but a side that contained Roberts, Mawson, Hourihane and Winnall would be hard to beat.
Well there's nothing you can do about the old but anyway My personal opinion is that we have around half a team that are good enough for this league, a couple who show promise to be good enough but not right now (so should have had experienced heads to 'bring them on' and the rest, sadly in key areas, that are simply not good enough by a long way and could potentially be our downfall. As for Jose. I wasn't excited by his appointment nor was I disappointed. I was disappointed by his starting 11 but completely understand why he didn't dare make wholesale changes so quickly but was impressed by the changes he made during the game.
Nowt wrong with behaving like that in a morning. It's when you're still like that in the evenings that you need to worry. Matchdays excluded, of course...
It’s an unfair comparison maybe and hard to make as both teams were so different, this current team may have smashed league one we might find out next year but i think confidence plays a massive part, once you get into a losing run it’s bloody hard to get out of it, so to expect the same players to suddenly start winning next year isn’t a forgone conclusion
