Following the unveiling of her statue in London yesterday we had endless interviews with women/girls who all described her as an 'inspiration' etc to them Yet we never hear of men/youths describing, for instance Churchill or Scott of the Antarctic as being inspirational to them. Why the difference - why do women need to be 'inspired' but men don't?
Well there's plenty of statues of 'blokes who have done stuff' all around the country. Men/Boys can definitely be inspired by them. Go and do.
I often go around giving everyone the finger after driving past the Dickie Bird statue. I might be using the wrong finger though.
Oooh be careful on here with loose talk like that , the lefties will be pulling you to bits . Seems if you’re white male and straight you spend far too much time feeling guilty . There’s this thing called equality you see , but it’s not really equal at all . Now then , we have statues of more men than women because throughout history the main figures tended to be men obviously . Some folk want to re write history and if fooking bugs em that they can’t . Ps I’m all for equality so let’s have it totally honest and true . Ladies play five sets at Wimbledon ? Why not they get the same pay as men . Just a thought
Go on then, I'll ask the question. No one is trying to rewrite history, just redress a bit of balance. Can you give me a good reason why we shouldn't have a statue of Millicent Fawcett in Parliament Square? Because from a historical perspective she did start the political debate that culminated in women gaining the vote in Britain - how is that less deserving of a spot than Abraham Lincoln or Ghandi?
No problem with it whatsoever , in fact I welcome it . What is wrong is the tokenism and the fact that men and women are different in many ways should be celebrated . But of course we can’t be sensible about these things as we’ve seen with students pulling down statues of historical figures at universities etc .
So what you're saying is there should be an equal number of statues in Parliament Square - 50% women and 50% men? Marvelous.
If it hadn't been for her her we wouldn't have seen the likes of Thatcher never mind May Will that do for a start PMSL Only joking before somebody jumps on the reply....
Locke Park sounds a bit too close for what I've seen...! I'm pretty certain that if we played pros and cons with British PMs then more male ones will have done more harm than female ones have done. But I don't fancy choosing the criteria!
Robert.hall.****er. Just to raise the debate a little. Why do you feel guilty? (Assuming you are white, male and straight)
I suppose she can use it as a duster after she's dried the pots, the damp will help to clean away the dirt..... or so I've been told.
