After any long-haul flight, or any short-haul flight from the busier airports or budget carriers, you will look bl**dy miserable and they need to make sure you match your photo when you arrive at your destination.
You used to be able to but they changed it. It’s the new passport with the chip on the front. When you had your picture taken it also scanned your face It uses algorithms that I believe measure distances between certain points on your face. Opening your mouth will change the fixed data points. It wouldn’t be able to recognise you when you are scanned at the airport That Data is embedded in the chip on your passport If you have flown lately you will have noticed or gone through E-Gates instead of manually giving a person your passport and him looking at you visually identifying you , maybe questioning you etc very slow ,one person after another and not ideal in this world we live in today to detect baddies You press your passport picture to the scanner , your face is scanned and the gate opens and you’re through Faster and more secure. No you can’t smile for both!! Techs not that good ....yet
We have an interesting issue with Passports at the moment. My Granddaughter cannot get a Passport unless we produce her Mothers Birth Certificate. We are legal guardians and despite providing Fathers birth certificate and GD’s with Father named on, this is not enough. Mother is not around to get hers, so stuck!!
Speak to your MP. In light of the Home Office scrutiny after Windrush, you might get more traction if you can get help from an official source. If they refuse to help, go to the papers.
Been to MP, no joy as ‘it’s policy’. I just don’t get how someone with a Birth certificate and her Fathers Birth certificate but doesn’t count as proof of iD because Morher and Father weren’t married. I have now gone to House of Lords with it
Last time I came through customs at Glasgow it failed to let me in. So it was back to plan B and an officer had to check it as normal. Modern technology not all its cracked up to be.
