Yes, every day for work. Roundabouts were an excellent innovation, always keeping the traffic moving; I hope whoever invented them was duly knighted. I hope whoever invented traffic lights has them rammed up their a*se on a daily basis. ******* and burning is the only thing good enough for people who put traffic lights on roundabouts or dismantle roundabouts to put up traffic lights.
Went through Stairfoot about an hour ago and it's backing up from Cundy Cross and around the roundabout
Took me around 30 mins to get from stairfoot to cundy Cross to head towards Rotherham road. Couldn't agree more @Jay roundabouts with traffic lights on are becoming all the more common but I'm not sure at all what the intention was with this madness
There is not a single example of a change of junction layout that resulted in traffic lights being installed that made the traffic flow better. When are traffic planners going to learn this - everybody else knows. Its as if they do it on purpose to deliberately make things worse. There are even regular examples reported of traffic flow improving when lights are out of action. In Pontefract, a few years ago, some wnaker decided to do away with the double roundabout heading into town and replace it with 4 way traffic lights. It made things hideously worse by several degrees, as any fool could have predicted. They had to put it all back to how it was previously within a short space of time. I hope whoever suggested the change in the first place was sacked - I'd hate to think I was still contributing to their income, the useless to$$er.
That'll be me diverting off the by-pass into Monk Bretton then. Not that it is much better that way because of... traffic lights.
I very rarely go that way but I happened to on Thursday last week. Couldn’t believe what I was seeing, cars turning against oncoming traffic, cars stopped basically in no mans land, horrendous. How long has it been like this? Must’ve been a couple of years since I last drove around there and it was that tiny roundabout which worked a hell of a lot better than those lights do.
Properly configured traffic lights can usually pass through more traffic than a roundabout. But when you don't configure them properly you get this...
Ahh right, hopefully it’ll calm down a bit when people have had longer to get used to it. I’ll be going back that way in a couple weeks again, may have to try and find a different route.
From the people that brought you Stairfoot and then the M1 junction at Birdwell comes Cundy Cross. wonder what they will **** up next. I hadnt thought there was ever a problem at Cundy Cross even on match days though I dont often use that route
what' what's wrong with the Birdwell junction ? I use it everyday the traffic light timings need tweeking but it's far better than it was before. The real problem isn't on the junction, it's the traffic trying to turn right into Aldi which causes back up onto the traffic system.
Why would the council install traffic lights at great expense to the tax payer when a roundabout would have sufficed ? I thought they were supposed to be skint . I remember a few years ago a 'Pegasus' crossing was installed near the ship pub in worsbrough so horse riders didn't have to dismount to press the button , a cool 30 grand it cost .
I agree Birdwell is excellent compared to the old Roundabout, only issues are the Aldi and driver error! (People getting in the middle lane for Hoyland and cutting across) all directions are better up there now, aldi cripples it coming in.
I'm not sure it's the council's doing is it? (Although they must have passed the planning). A stipulation of the new estate being built was that the private building company had to provide an exit road and also change the roundabout. I havn't seen any council workers working this project?
