Seriously can it get anymore boring? Monaco was bad enough but Montreal is a circuit where you usually get plenty of overtaking and close battles. Those in charge need to seriously look at the rules package / engines.
I've been a fan for a number of years but my interest is definitely waning. Races have generally become a complete non event with little to no action most of the time. Definitely in need of a shake up, something has to change
I've been a huge fan since I was a little lad, the 80's. First year this year where I've lost interest. I always watch every race, even the ones at daft o'clock, I record them. Today, first time I can remember, I watched the start, there was the incident with Hartley/Stroll and I sacked it. Went out and visited my mother in law. Genuinely. Took her dog out for her. I love F1, Hamilton I massively admire, I've been to Silverstone, Spa and Monza. But it's rarely exciting is it? They've tried all sorts, loads of fake initiatives designed to make it more interesting. But it's dying. It must be. Because I've got up at ridiculous times on a morning in the past, when I've work or whatever to deal with, Australia is a great example, and I've been there in front of the TV ready to watch the thrills and spills. It's not got me anymore. Sorry, I've no answers. But yeah, if I'm struggling, it's struggling. Maybe today was a one-off?
As a definite non Formula One fan due to the fact I've always found it boring I'd say the following.... Adapt the circuits to allow more overtaking. There's always been an element in my eyes of it being like watching cars drive round in a procession for hours. The ones that start near the front tend to stay there unless they break down. Eliminate the majority of the differences in the engines. Too often results are determined by the quality of the engine rather than that of the driver. It's like watching Celtic v Kilmarnock every week.
Not to nit pick but its actually the vastly superior aero packages that make the real difference. Teams like Mercedes, Ferrari etc spend countless millions on aero improvements and tweaks, the actual engine (whilst being obviously important) comes second. In my opinion, it should go back to how it was in the 70's and 80's, 1000hp monsters and singing V8/V12s. They should put a blanket cap on spending but apart from that, let them build whatever they want! Although a width restriction must exist as a team would build a car as wide as the track so nobody could overtake them
Never interested me, but was usually aware when there was a race on. It barely gets a mention these days - I genuinely didn't know it was happening this weekend until this thread popped up. Dying 'sport'.
Don’t forget also bring back when they had to run to the cars, and bring back manual gearboxes then let’s see what kind of drivers they are.
If the drivers were not tied to a manufacturer, and a draw was made for the cars, that would show who was the true champion.
I was never a massive fan but I remember that it seemed to change when they did something with the steering (very technical I know) and cars no longer drifted - seemed to take away a lot of the skill and excitement. I'm guessing a lot of the changes over the last 10-15 years have revolved around safety and it certainly seems way safer these days - unfortunately its also way more boring.
I'd like to see qualifying change to a 1 lap standing start (still over 3 rounds) - any mistake by the driver means they start lower down the grid. It would make the battle to get to the front a bit more interesting - for awhile at least. As it is, they should rename it as B1 (boring one)
I think even the F1 owners got bored yesterday and got the chequered flag person to end it one lap early, to put us all out of our misery.
How to solve the issue of boring formula 1 races Change the rules to make the aero much simpler which will allow cars to follow closer behind the one in front. Get rid of he stupid regulations they brought in which made the cars wider purely because they think it makes the car look prettier. I don't care if it looks pretty if it's not overtaking. 2 (or even 3) mandatory pit stops per race. This will stop drivers 'managing their tyres' and coasting around to make the tyres last an entire race.. Narrower tyres.
My idea as someone who doesn't watch F1 (so this might be complete ********) - each team should have a set equal budget for the season. The drivers are put up for auction at the beginning of every season and teams have to bid on them out of their budget. Whatever they have left they can spend on the car. It would be interesting to see how teams prioritise the use of cash.
Liked it years ago , interest steadily waned to zero. Only good thing about it now is it’s a good cure for insomnia.
Try Formula E. Lots going on in the race, same cars, switch cars at the pit stop, street circuits with overtaking. Oh and my company sponsors the series too
I gave formula e a chance but its way too gimmicky. Speed boost for the most popular driver and now they are going full Mario kart with the hyperboost ********. I also find its a bit too short for me which makes it hard to take seriously. Same goes for many other sports too. For the real action the best place to look is gp2 or formula 2 as they call it these days. Lots of action, no gimmicks
