Great to see the young talent getting a run out, and giving Stendel plenty to be encouraged by.

Any pre season should be taken with a pinch, but it’s nice to see some of the young lads showing the more established players there is some talent behind them.

A win is better than a loss of course even if it is the pre season, and lets hope theres some good things Stendel will have taken on board for the next few matches.
But the likely departure of Bradshaw for roughly £850k is the worrying thing tonight for me, where do we go from here if we do sell him off this week.

That double act wouldn’t do it at the top end of League One, never mind a battle in the Championship.

How do you or anybody else know that for sure ?. I dont think Mowatt has really been given a fair chance at all, for whatever reasons.

To anybody who went then tonight, which of our teams looked better, the 1st half or the 2nd half team ?. And Im glad to see Walton seems to be our number1 keeper now.

I’d say the 2nd half side but you have to take in consideration that York took off a lot of their first team players midway into the half.

Wouldnt necessarily say Walton is no. 1. He played full game tonight but Davies played full game at Gainsborough. Still up for grabs I reckon.

Yes, although you can never read too much into pre-season games that puts our result into perspective. The Sunderland fans will be all doom and gloom after that.

We were thoroughly entertained tonight. Seven goals scored, a number of scoring chances squandered and I lost count of the times we hit the bar or post. Some good football in both halves. For me we have a more than competitive squad already. Any additions will just be icing on the top.

Well i enjoyed tonight all the players got stuck in and the second half there was some nice movement for the goals York aren't what we will play every week but it was a good run out.

So did I. I don't subscribe to this idea that it's not worth going to a friendly/not worth going because the opposition are lowly ranked etc etc. I don't care who we are playing. I want to see us beat anybody - anybody at all. I've missed enough matches in my exiled lifetime so any chance I get to go now is gladly taken.

Last night had its frustrations (as I indicated in my early lines in this thread) but once we got in front there was only one result. Both Barnsley sides played very well, particularly the second half line up. Some of the movement was sublime. I know we will be playing much better teams in the coming months but things look good to me. One or two additions and we will be fine.

Totally agree. In 58 years watching the Reds I can only recollect seeing them score 7 three times - including last night. For that reason alone the game will live long in my memory regardless of the opposition.

The thing that struck me most was a ruthlessness Ive rarely seen in Reds teams. In 44 minutes we bagged seven goals and rattled the woodwork 3 or 4 times. Heartening to see and enjoy.

Would also add it was a lovely evening in a pleasant and friendly environment, and fair play to York who never gave up trying.

Agreed. A lovely environment but such a shame to see an old established ground that will be no more after this season. It’s one of those places that just feels right. The approach up Bootham Crescent, a nice welcome outside and traditional stands and terraces inside.

I’ve never seen us score seven goals in a match and I’ve been following them since 1962. I loved the hunger and the willingness to seek out the ball. You could see that they were capable of scoring every time they crossed the half way line. It should have been 10, but that would have been cruel on York

One of only two grounds (the other being Boothferry Park) where I've never seen us lose.:D
Although 7-1 wins cannot fail but to make a fan happy, I'm not reading too much into a friendly scoreline. It means nothing, the league season results mean everything. If we win preseason friendlies, I can enjoy them for what they are, without getting carried away. Likewise, defeats are met with exactly the same attitude. Had we suffered defeat, like Sunderland, I've no doubt some would be in meltdown!:D
Unlike others, I'm chomping at the bit for the new season. I'm looking forward to seeing our new coach's style of football, what formation he uses, whether there's a willingness to give some of our young players an opportunity, what new players we eventually bring in and seeing some of my old friends again.
