Yes, brilliant going on a Caribbean cruise for the new year, this will our 5th one & couldn't imagine not having a balcony, so relaxing to sit out side for an hour having a few cheeky ones before going out for the evening, you'll love it.

Personally go for the cheap option inside cabin. (If you look for offers sometimes upgrades are free.) but to be honest we only use the cabin for sleeping and showering. One with a window doesn't offer anything but daylight to be honest. Can't speak for balconies. But if for example you go on a med cruise. Ship sails at night and your at the next port b4 you wake up. Absolutely loads to do on board. Relax. Shows. Casinos pools. Food 24/7 . Brilliant. Suppose if your spending days at sea a balcony might be considered. But plenty of places on board to chill. Regarding upgrade to drinks. You can only book full party. Our lass not being a big drinker. Wouldn't pay us to do. Unless of course we stayed on the boat.

A balcony is a “very nice to have” but you’ll probably find there’s so much going on, both on and off the ship, that you’ll not spend much time on it.
Weigh up the additional cost against the expected weather and the amount of time you’ll have a view worth seeing.

Just been on one - Marella Discovery 2 and would recommend some outside space

Entertainment was really good - 3 or 4 areas with something different on every night

The pool was quite small but didn’t know what to expect, the sail always were really good (we were in Dubrovnik for the England Croatia game). I would definitely go on another one but you probably get best value if you book later .

Been on one cruise and didn’t enjoy one bit

    It’s like a cattle market

I've had some cracking holidays, but the med cruise we did was easily my favourite.

I could be here all night explaining why.

    Thomson spirit

Loved visiting different places but on onboard I hated every minute of it

The days at sea were shocking with a pool only big enough for about 20 people

Fair enough was it one of those that crosses the Atlantic during winter. (Quote Days at sea) Wouldn't fancy one of those missen if it was. Seasickness and all that. Can't speak for the spirit not been on it. But don't think it's one of the Thompson (TUI) fleet now.

    It was round med

    Flew to Malaga

Then visited places like Lisbon , Porto , Ibiza , Barcelona

The rocking at night scared the **** out of me and found the boat very noisy

Apparently it was one of the last sails for the ship so that’s probably why.

Don’t get me wrong people love them

I went with my 9 month old so that didn’t help hahaha

A brilliant way of seeing the world. You probably won't spend that much time in your cabin so I wouldn't necessarily worry about a balcony unless it's a good price.

Best piece of advice I was given relating to cruises was to concentrate on the itinerary, not on the boat. Make sure you are visiting places you want to see.

We've been on a few and it's a belter of a holiday for all the reasons listed above. That being said, if you can stretch to a balcony make sure you do it's well worth it. Spectacular at night to be able to sit on your balcony In the quiet with a nice whisky and watch the moon and stars.

Its worth it if you aren't paying much too difference in price. It is nice to have but haven't tended to pay more than a few hundred quid more for one. I love cruises. Which company are you looking at?

Yeah Thomson's ships aren't the greatest especially after you've tried some of the other cruise lines such as P&O. That said, I loved the first cruise we went on which was on the Thomson Celebration
