....... that’s if, and it’s a big if, Stendel can mould the players to fit those positions. This may sideline Hedges and Isgrove because there will not be much need for wingers. Plus it will put the spot light on the central defenders who are quality players with a flat back 4 but are they good enough to bring the ball out of defence and accurately pass the ball which are requirements of a 532 formation?
Are few are suggesting 5-3-2 and I’m not against it per se - though I do think we’d be better off playing 4-4-2 at least to begin with. The squad looks set up to play both of those, though it depends I guess in who leaves as there has been interest in Moore, Bradshaw and Potts, all three of which would be in my first eleven. I think the Dougall signing means we will have to lose at least one more midfield player - unless he’s been brought in to be the ball playing centre back in a back 5
What back four? We aint kept same back four more than two games running for three years and its a been a mish mash of ten players for four positions. Raffle tickets to pick back four is only hope
What ever formation we end up playing, i just hope its an attacking one, and that we have the discipline to keep the faith in it for longer than one half, before we start panicing and scrambling about like headless chickens. If we do, Herr Flick will have brought the club further forward than any head coach before him in my opinion.
Imagine we'll find out tomorrow. If we start 442 again i can imagine that's what we'll start the season with.
