Boo! If we win it we'll have to go to the expense of getting a second shelf for our groaningly full trophy cupboard!
We have to play in it, so for me, we might as well try and win it. The win in the Johnstones Paint trophy against York City was the turning point in our season and was definitely the catalyst for the double success we enjoyed at the end of that particular season. Ask any pro footballer and hopefully they should tell you that they thrive on playing in as many competitive games in a season as they can. That's why some players look frustrated and often use an expletive when they are " hooked." Being " rested" for certain games can disturb the rythmn /understanding between team members and can lead to a player becoming frustrated. Playing together regularly builds confidence, particularly if you can keep winning and leads to improved team cohesion and an overall enhancement in team spirit.
If we went out at the group stage, I don't think anyone would lose sleep over it. However, once you get to the QF or SF, then you want to get to Wembley and win it.
Bar the FA Cup, we should be full steam ahead for the league, particularly given the amount of fatigue we're likely to accumulate given our style of play. It's Mr Stendel's job to win the next football match he's faced with and get us promoted, and I'll sure he'll pick a team with a view to both. But I'd love the whole club to take a stand and flaunt the rules. We can even do that without putting a bunch of kids out and merely in giving some first teamers a rest and some of the lads who aren't up to speed a chance. Making any changes will be against the rules practically by default as our squad is that tight and lacking in experience. We shouldn't be punished for that. In terms of supporters, we should all boycott it IMO. It might even be in the club's interested to play the games behind closed doors so as to avoid the costs of stewarding/policing etc which may leave us at a loss.
Barnsley v Sunderland possibly. Just a good day out. v stoke city u21s wouldn’t even get out of bed for it.
I hear what you are saying but I do not think the sponsors would be too pleased with clubs playing behind closed doors , I personally am not bothered about the competition but someone is putting money into the game at our level & that has to be respected , it should be the EFL who should decide what should happen with the competition to which I think entry should be made optional & not compulsory .
Should end it. The League Cup should be for the 72 Football League clubs instead. Fans definitely should boycott the thing.
FA cup is the only domestic cup in England with any credabillity IMO. That cup has rich history and has the beauty of the non league sides being in it. Not to mention the fact that it seems to be regularly televised on the BBC and has games on a Saturday so more fans can attend. They need to scrap the Checkatrade and Crappybao cups to reduce the amount of fixtures all sides are playing as most fans are not bothered about these two cups. That is clearly shown by the lack of coverage of both cups, and the low attendances seen in these. If they do want to keep some form of other cup competiton then they should maybe combine both to make the EFL cup. Have all 72 EFL sides in and have just a standard knockout tournament style opposed to this stupid group stage nonsense in the Checkatrade one. You could even keep the rewards the same and have the winner in Europe. All EFL sides would then take that very seriously indeed if it meant they had a shot at Europa League.
