Prosinecki and Vialli we're both unbelievable. Randomly, I remember Jon Macken and David Healy taking the piss out of our defence once too.
Deli Ali destroyed us when he came with MK Dons , they put 5 past us & we replied with 3 very late goals
Bergkamp....nice easy one that...though seen plenty of cracking performances....he gave a rolls royce of a performance...class..and elegance and effortless.
Can always remember Wes Hoolahan playing like Messi against us. Andrew Crofts once run the show against us at Oakwell also. that's 2 straight off the top of my head. their is probably more obvious ones.
Prosineki by far for me followed by Ginola, vialli and bergkamp. More recently tho I’d say Deli Alli Nathan Byrne (Swindon) Jack Payne (Southend)
A couple stand out for me who may be under the radar off some.. In the prem season one of the most sand out players was for me surprisingly Newcastle's Keith Gillespie in the 2-2 draw really impressive that day. Also Michael Branch played for Wolves one night and was unplayable upfront.. got a standing ovation from the reds fans when he went off..
Prosinecki all day every day. Absolute masterclass and a privilege to witness. Still get hairs on me neck bristling to remember standing ovation he got from entire ground.
Prosinecki was unbelievable that day and must rank as the best ever performance I've ever seen by an opposition player - he thoroughly deserved his standing ovation. Michael Branch ran his blood to water for Wolves and would fit in well with Stendel's style. He ran out of steam after about 80 minutes and is the only other player I can remember where Barnsley fans gave a standing ovation. I suppose you have to go off before the end to get one of those because Vialli, Bergkamp and Matt Le Tissier all gave performances worthy of the same.
Another vote for Bergkamp for me, as well as classic Arsenal back 4 of that era (Dixon, Adams, Keown, Winterburn).
Scholes was ridiculously good, I agree. At any ground ever, I reckon Modric's handling of England in the World Cup semi final was as impressive a display as I've seen for a long time. Stones and Trippier's presence meant that was also more or less against Barnsley. Although had Scholes been in the England side that night, we'd have won .
Another standout performance to mention. Not too many years back Matt Murray in goal for Wolves, he was absolutely immense, saved absolutely everything, faultless performance. Remember thinking this guy will go on to be England number 1 but injury put paid to his career.
Prosenecki and Bregkamp defo Ray Houghton for Fulham and Sylvan Distin when on loan to Newcastle in a cup game, both impressed me.
Ian Wright anyone? Did him and Mark Bright play for Palarse against us and murder us...or am I imagining this nightmare?
Prosineki is the standout player for me, and I remember a game we had against Southend and they had a forward call Freddy Eastwood and he absolutely played a blinder that day looked for all the world that he was destined for great things, but, all I can recall other than that game is that he was from the travelling community.
Seen in person I'd go Ginola. He looked about a foot taller then all our players somehow and moved as if they weren't there. Like he was playing on a shiny French trolley. On telly probably Vialli. He looked embarrassed at how easy it was for him to score against us.
Wasn't against Barnsley, but saw Henrik Larsson play for Sweden against Wales in Wrexham (probably 94ish). He was fantastic that night and went on to have a fairly good career.
I came in to say this, he absolutely took the piss out of us in both games - they had a great team that year and I was surprised they did so poorly the one season they had in the championship.
