Silly boy. Sky sports should be shown red though, what a patronising d*ckhead that bloke is. Stopped watching SSN years ago, glad i did
Got the ball didn’t he? The definition of “taking one for the team” Not as good as Potts’ one last season against Forest mind.
You don't have to actually kick someone to get sent off. If you attempt to kick someone with no intention of trying to go for the ball (such as in this case) a red card is completely justified. It's definitely a cynical one to stop the counter, so as RC said, he took one for the team. It does happen quite often to deliberately foul to stop a counter and usually it ends with a yellow. But if you do it like this? Then a red card is what you deserve.
Red card? Absolutely, but the language in that report is utterly ridiculous - "shocking", "horrendous", "x-rated"????? No, just cynical.
I once got a penalty in local football for something I'd not felt. Apparently the centre half had lashed out at me as I skipped past him and the ref gave a penalty for intent. He had to explain to the centre half that the fact he missed me with his wild kick didn't make any difference.
I am reminded of the great Darren Moore, who took one for the team against Doncaster. Had he not picked their player up and thrown him to the ground, then belly flopped on him we'd have been 2 nil down. As it was we beat them with just 10 men.
I've got to say that was one of the worst I've seen, if it had happened against us at Oakwell folk would have been up in arms. Not because of the actual physical contact, it was way more than the usual 'taking one for the team', in this case the ball was loooong gone he just upped and went for him.
It should be a red every time if the referee judges that the foul was deliberate. By fans condoning 'taking one for the team' we are only shortchanging ourselves who pay to watch something
Stupid challenge and define red card but the language used in the report is ridiculously over the top.
What makes it more of a stupid challenge is that he could just as easily have shoulder charged or blocked the attacker and finished up with a yellow.
