It’s all speculation on what happened to Hecky. But I’ll just say this ......... his book will be mighty interesting.
On the one hand we had Yiadom, Bradshaw and Barnes but on the other hand we didn't have Dougall, Moore or Woodrow and the rest of our squad was a year younger and less experienced.
To be fair I think Bielsa would make most managers look foolish. Pep and Pochettino[?] regard him as a mentor. Can't think of many places he would go and not improve a team significantly. If Leeds don't succeed with him at the helm I think they should just accept they're never going back.
A supposed 'in the know' Leeds fan mate, of mine, tells me that when Leeds relieve a manager of his duties (which is often), they don't pay up their contract, but keep them on the payroll until they accept another job. So if Hecky does take this job, it is for footballing reasons, not financial, plus in the scheme of things, is relatively local so won't have to uproot his family. I wish him well, choose what. We've moved on, hope he can too.
No I don’t. I don’t know how he’ll do in the future, I think he did a great job at Barnsley but I don’t believe in general that there’s such thing as ‘good’ & ‘bad’ managers except for rare exceptions like Guardiola who’s been superb everywhere & I’m sure there’s a few who’ve done bad jobs everywhere. Most do well in some jobs & poor in others. I disagree on that about not changing a thing, he had to change 3 of the back 4 during a play off push, many of our fans wrote us off after losing Long as Roberts had struggled earlier in the season. Again, many said we’d struggle when Aidey White got crocked & we lost the White - Hammill partnership down the left but he brought in a surplus to requirements George Williams & got him to do a job. Same at right back with Scowen playing the last couple of months there when Williams had to move to left back. I think having a manager in charge who was formerly a full back was a huge part in things not falling apart when the back four was broken up. The squad was down to its barebones. The options off the bench for the last couple of months tended to be Toney, Chapman & Jak McCourt. All still only playing at league one or two level now 2 years closer to their prime so it’s not like we had some brilliant squad. The momentum thing doesn’t really add up either. Watkins never started a game under Heckingbottom in league one, Bree & White barely played a game under him. Scowen only really played at right back under him. Fletcher, Brownhill, Mawson, Isgrove & Williams left. If you go through the team there was only Davies, Roberts, Hourihane, Hammill & Winnall who remained in the team from the play off run & Hammill wasn’t even a regular. Why we did so well in our first season back in the championship was in my opinion Hecky’s use of the squad. Unlike league one where we could rely on quality in the championship we had to rely on been smarter than the opposition & using the subs well. He changed so many games late on with subs. Wolves is the obvious example due to 4 late goals but the QPR game at home always springs to mind when he brought Sessi on for a striker & there were groans from fans but it allowed Scowen to break forward & he got the late winner. After that everything went wrong due to matters off the pitch & the famous January 17 balls up which has been done to death so I’ll not repeat my opinions on that for the 100th time.
Its never last chance saloon with football managers. Look at all managers who have had shockers and got another job straight away. Yes some like paul ince and shearer were clearly not made for management but if you keep applying for jobs someone will set you on. Even simon davey got another job after us haha!!!
Some valued opinions although pep has managed 3 teams Barca Bayern and citeh all had incredible teams. There are plenty of good and bad managers about only last week you was hailing bielsa look at the Cardiff squad Warnock got promoted hardly spent a bean and the season prior kept a piss poor roverum side up. The jury is still out for hecky he did do well for us untill conor left so a good 12 months good luck to him though. It's your opinion they was no momentum but even winnall in his interviews after leaving said team spirit was great and they knew they would win the play offs. 8 of the starting 11 v Ipswich(1st away game in the championship) were here in the promotion season, 9 in the 1st home game. Watkins started plenty in league one I remember 2 off the top of my head where he was infulecial bury at home and Walsall away. Him and winnall had a great partnership.
Exactly. Prime example of this was Mark Lawrenson who failed miserably as a manager at both Oxford and Peterborough, yet has the audacity to sit in the Match Of The Day studio, week in week out, slating well established Premier League managers. Grinds my ginger does that!!
Because supporters are still trying to get a grip of what happened to him while at Barnsley. At the time - I kept saying on Football Heaven - there is a story there that needs to come out. If he ever writes a book I think there is going to be some startling revelations in there. I also think one or two on here are not saying what they know.
Good luck Hecky The jury is out on him really but he is a young manager with some great attributes. He is hard working, intelligent and seems to connect with the players. He did very well with us until he had his team sold. Anyone would struggle with that and I think we would be having a good go at it in league one with him in charge with this team.
Frankly, in the last 2 years, he's descended into dour bitterness and negativity. I wouldn't spend a penny on his book. If he hadn't been from Barnsley he would've had more pressure to go and many more would have suggested how boring and negative a bloke he was. I recall one interview he gave where he confessed Patrick had told him to enjoy the win against Millwall and celebrate it. He went to Leeds. If he'd stayed, I suspect he may well have been sacked, despite signing a new contract. That's the only story of note in that.

Hmmm, does make you wonder if he is still being paid off monthly, and if he takes a job during that period, his considerable salary ceases. Certainly doesn't seem eager to get back on the horse.
I can't imagine that's legal. I'm not an expert, but I would anticipate that may constitute constructive dismissal. Especially in a business such as football, where if you fall off the merry-go-round it can be hard to get back on.
