Woodrows words not mine. Can this be done with the lads we have or do we need help in January. Over the years this has been a tuff league to get out of, and we have a great chance if we get jan correct. Come on u reds .
To get us out of this league? Two new full backs So that we aren't on the back foot again in the close season? Centre back as well
Doncaster Manager Grant McCann said his advisors had watched several of our games recently and identified Cavare as our weak link, so that explains why most of their attacks went down his side, so for me we should be looking to recruit two reliable full backs who understand the demands of League One. We also need a prolific striker just in case anything happens to Moore or Woodrow.
Certainly for league one think we are well covered. Only having one first team right back is costing us now he hit a bad spell and has totally lost confidence.
Cavare needs competition but the issues the way the teams set up. We’re too attack minded at times, it’s like we’ve got 8 attackers & only two defensive minded players & a keeper. It just needs reigning in a bit
Having a prolific striker striker sitting around on the bench “just in case” would something of a revelation for the reds
Two LBs needed and the same at RB if we are kicking off in the Championship in August. We need to sign an RB in the January window though.
6 shots on target and 6 goals against. We definitely need to sort something out at back but like people have said before since kenny got injured we have lost our midfield shield. That has alot to do with it.
Kenny back fit and a right back. That’ll do. As long as we don’t sell anyone. Yes we’d love a wide player and a striker but we’re cutting our cloth accordingly. We have a strong side. Unless they sell Moore, Pinnock or Potts, I don’t think we will be deemed to need to bring loads in by the owners. If we can clear one or two out, maybe we could get better back in, not sure who fits that bill though.
While you are suggesting spending money, it should be borne in mind that we have £6 million less in our coffers this season.
We've conceded 19 goals in 19 games. Only Portsmouth, Sunderland and Blackpool have conceded fewer. Although I accept that we should strive to improve the squad, I'm really struggling to see how our defensive record could be much better, in this league. I do think the defence will need improving if we go up, though. I hope we continue conceding goals at the same rate for the rest of the season. If we do, we'll have a good chance of going up.
The problem being the overall rate doesn’t show our current defensive ability. How many had we conceded, say, after ten games, and how many in the next 9? Having had a quick look it’s 7 and 12 I think - a change from 0.7 per game to 1.33, not far off double. The first of those 9 was a clean sheet too - so if you changed it to goals conceded in the first eleven league games, then the next eight, it’s still 7 and 12 - with goals per game of 0.63 and 1.5. Almost precisely coinciding with Dougall’s injury as well, it is clearly no coincidence. We concede 1.5 per game currently, that isn’t good enough for a playoff push never mind top two.
To be fair the stats back up your view: - August: 5 games, conceded 2, 0.4 goals per game. September: 5 games, conceded 4, 0.8 goals per game. October: 6 games, conceded 8, 1.33 goals per game. November: 4 games, conceded 5, 1.25 goals per game.
