Who heard of Hourianne, McBurnie, Pinnock and Woodrow etc before we signed them?, be honest...we can speculate on players we would like but more often now BFC keep things under the radar and left field. I think they have been more successful of late finding good players than bad.

Lets trust the process and not over react when we again sign a player from a Yeovil, Macclesfield or from a third tier Luxembourg league team.

    Interesting month ahead.

So don't have an opinion unless it's a positive one then? Brilliant.

A typical shitty antagonistic response from one of the board's least noticed posters.

To be fair I meant to say positive not pointless.

You should be grateful I make these posts for you to reply to. Without them you'd be even more anonymous.

I’m guessing what the OP means is let’s at least give the players that we sign a chance before we slate them even if they are unknowns. I’m not having a go at your here CT but there’s quite a few folk on here that will use the old “no ambition” just because they haven’t heard of said player.

Despite lots of goals Hourihane didn’t start showing consistently quality performances for well over a year.

Woodrow has done well but he was missing for over a month injured.

McBurnie did well but was meant to be here 5 months earlier & if he was we’d have stayed up.

Pinnock barely played last season, only got going properly in his second season.

Selling players is all well & good if you’ve got a ready made replacement in form straight away we rarely do because we sign young players & it’s even tougher because it’s January & there’s no settling in period & pre-season, that’s the issue for me.

for what its worth I think the system would work better if players were bought in in the January window as replacements for players who would be leaving in the closed season so they could train and get used to the system and the club, come august its just like putting a piece of lego in place

It seems from the stats below his avatar that people tend to agree with what he says for the most part.

It’s a nice idea in theory but then you’re paying two lots of wages & carrying a huge squad.

Best bet in my eyes is to get it so you’re only losing 2 or 3 first teamers at the most each summer & the core of the team & squad stays the same

all that you're doing is keeping your u21's topped up, as a player moves on a player from the 21's moves up and you bring in another one to take his place, continuity like Liverpool in the 70's and united in the 90's

That's not what he/she said at all though, is it? I've rarely ever agreed with you Conan, but I used to think some of the stick you got was unwarranted. Now you go looking for it at every opportunity. Suppose you'll find it entertaining sometimes, fair enough. But it's hard to take you seriously (in as much as any bugger on here can be taken seriously) anymore.

Our promotion rivals are signing players to make their squads stronger. We have sold someone so are weaker. We have a history of bringing in players late in transfer windows. It would be nice with Potts gone to think we will have a new signing brought in for this weekend ready to play.

That's definitely true, but unfortunately it's much more difficult and expensive to sign players in the January window. If it's someone who's going to walk straight into the first team, then it's probably worth shelling out the extra, otherwise better to wait until the summer.

No doubt our club have a way of doing things that they like.
I would have liked to have thought that ....if a player and arguably one of our better players leave ......a suitable replacement would come in almost immediately.
I can remember when portsmouth were doing business in the summer....they stated (jackett) that the lad who went to Coventry would only be allowed to go when they had a replacement in......and that's what happened.
We on the other hand seem to grasp the first deal that comes along and then take our time with a replacement. I believe this (if we are serious about promotion) to be a fault and serious time ...ground....and points are lost as a consequence.
No meltdown or hissy fit just imho...we seem to labour in the "in tray" bit of transfers.
Imho we need some pace and goals from a midfielder to come in.....now.

That sounds great but any player good enough to move into the first team within 5 months is going to want proper wages & not the type Brown, Ben Williams, Bird etc will have been on

I dont disagree, it would be great to get someone in now (check on the hour). I was trying to point out the successes we have had with players who when signed, didnt initially meet with the desired tag of a box office signing. For the record, im gutted Potts left but am willing to await the clubs response to the sale.
