There has been no news from club as to whether they are gona appeal against Sat's red card. What is the ruling if the appeal is upheld or overturned?
You can argue the outcome, but there's no doubt that if you go in like that you give the ref the opportunity to flash a red. We would have been outraged if that tackle had been against one of our's - and rightly so in my opinion.
The lad won the ball but as platini got his way and infused ballet into our game then daft as it sounds, that tackle is actually deemed a red. I know
I cant see the club appealing it - I dont remember us ever appealing a red card and there have been several much more blatantly wrong than the Brown one. I really don't think an appeal would succeed anyway. The ref was standing just a few feet away saw a dangerous challenge with a high foot and studs showing. Whilst I and many others think it was harsh and many times would have been just a yellow its not so blatantly wrong as to be a case for overturning a clear error. I'm more concerned that someone will want to investigate McGeehgans treading on the Southend player as a deliberate act
I've watched it and watched it, and seems to me that Brown got to the ball first, but missed it with his front foot and it hit the inside of his other thigh. Their player definitely made a meal of it as you would expect, but what goes against Brown for me, is the fact that he went in studs showing and missed the ball, which made it look bad. Had he connected cleanly with the ball with his front foot, I think we may have been talking just a yellow at worst. Can't see it being contested to be honest. It is what it is.
I think part of what caused Brown to go in about harder was him getting fouled by the byline a couple of mins before when he ended up going over on his ankle funny but again the ref missed that one. Think a slight bit of red mist might have descended for Jacob following that.
Have a look at the still photo of the challenge on the Matchday Recap video - no chance of getting that overturned, foot up, not in control, off ground.
No arguments with decision in this day and age although I didn't agree.Way things are going in football players will be wearing tutus and ballet shoes and spectatators sitting in stands and clapping like penguins(that's after the var decision has been made). The powers that be have taken all the physical contact out and replaced it with cynical fouls eg studs on top of foot or down achilles.
You make a good point about stamping. It's something I've seen come into the game more regularly of late. Footballers seem to have mastered the art of stamping down on opposing players feet rather than kicking. It's becoming quite common.
Funny thing is in the game last night Billy Sharp goes in studs up on the keeper and catches him but he was “entitled to go for the ball!” According to the sky pundits!!
