Be happy not to buy anyone as long as nobody leaves

I don't think we'll spend a record fee on a striker - Woodrow and Moore will be our statting strike force i reckon.

My guess is that we'll buy a winger for a record fee. I see Brown starting on the right but I think Daniel will want someone who works harder than Thiam at both ends of the pitch.

    Just a hunch like.

    This is the one.

Conway said getting French and German players to sign for a 3rd Tier English team was hard, as they compared it to their own League 3. Which in both countries are more like the National League, if not smaller.

Thiam & Cavare both admitted they didn’t realise how competitive and how many big teams are in L1 and that it’s still a good League (as we all know).

Next season should start to see a slight change in us getting more foreign players over the line easier. We have some good links, and looking at who we have got in so far (Dougall, Bahre, Thiam & Cavare) it looks promising. We’ll not get every one right - no one does.

    My reasoning is several-fold:

Up front is an area that we're already light in. Moore's injury bore that out, and it could have cost us very dearly not signing proper back up in January.

If there's anything we're lacking going forward, it's a bit of pace. A quick striker to complement Moore and Woodrow rather than replace them would definitely not go amiss, especially in the Championship. The more variety we have up front, the more difficult we'll be to play against. It's a squad game, after all.

Moore is still unproven at Championship level. Hopefully he'll do well, but if we're unlucky he may go back to missing shed loads of easy chances, like he did last time we were here. Woodrow's pretty much an unknown quantity in the second tier as well, but I genuinely think he'll smash it next season. Hope I'm right!

Strikers command a premium when it comes to transfer fees. Just the way it is. So if we do sign one, he's unlikely to be cheap. Although of course there are bargains to be found both here and abroad. Maybe we'll hit the jackpot with a German unknown or a Premier League reserve.

You could well be right. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if we sign both. No matter how you look at it, just two main strikers with Victor and George Miller as backup isn't going to cut it at Championship level, especially if anyone gets injured.

In this modern era of 'undisclosed fees', we may never know, only speculate, if anyone may ever cost us more than our twice paid fee of £1.5m.

Then again, we may already have bettered it and be none the wiser.

    Very true.

My reasoning was that Stendel seems the kind of bloke who will give his successful lads a chance. I think he'll go with Moore and Woodrow- maybe a season long loan as a third striker.

Keeping the spine is most important. Davies looks like he's on his way, but Pinnock, Lindsay, Mowatt, Moore and Woodrow should hopefully all be in the starting 11 come August.

I hope you're right about everyone else starting in August but living within our means dictates we have to sell players on occasion. I'm braced for Pinnock or Lindsay leaving this summer I'm afraid. I hope it doesn't happen and the owners are prepared to take a hit financially to help us establish this season. If they feel they have a replacement lined up though I reckon one will go.

Fingers crossed, especially Pinnock. As close to Futcher as I've seen in a Barnsley shirt.

This. From mid February onwards I don't even think he featured in the match day squad of a team that finished bottom of League One. Bradford fans said he's awful and wanted rid of him. I'm sure Stendel will give him pre-season to be see if he can offer anything, but my hunch is Adeboyejo, Green and Miller will be sent out on loan.

If we do we'll never know. The fee will be undisclosed.

I think we'll be told we broke our transfer record, but will be undisclosed. A bit like what Preston did with Potts. I think the PR opportunity will be too good to miss.

Miller was a waste of money. It was another what if we dont go up signing like Tuton, Jackson and Payne? My guess is apart from pre-season we'll not see him kick a ball in anger.

I think we'll sign a nippy striker from ligue 1 in France and a target man type from the bundesliga 2. Maybe a big German goal keeper. Two full backs, a centre back. Box to box midfielder.

Looking at the squad we might need to sign near on ten players.

In past we've always signed players we've been after for a while. It wouldn't surprise me to see Kerr from St Johnstone and Kelly from Oldham. There was also that Swansea City midfielder we were linked with.

    Exciting times.

You have to think Preston paid 2m plus for Potts. Would we be happy to spend that kind of money for that standard of player?

Totally agree with this post. We need 4 strikers for a Championship campaign. Woodrow I'm sure will fair well & Moore will play his part, although he has not proved himself at that level as yet, and lends himself to a certain style of play. A pacy striker would be ideal for a counter press style. Green I can't see being ready for another 12 months. Jacob could play up top, but I think he has found his position out wide. Non of us know what will happen, but one suspects more German recruits, hopefully with Bahre signing perminently too

Was just going to say that - given all our fees are undisclosed, and have been for years, how do we know we haven’t eclipsed 1.5million?

What for example did we pay for Woodrow? Moore? Mowatt? I’ve seen rumours, but no cast iron figures.

Doubt we paid much more than £1.5m for the lot of them put together

Heard we're in advanced talks with a CB playing in Austria. No idea who it is but I imagine our activity this window will be made up of these type of signings. I think we'll spend a bit of money on somebody but doubt it'll be on a name known to most of us.

If the price quoted for Bahre is true, id be scouring Germany for more talent, cos theres obviously much better value for money over there. Stendal will onow a few gems, unless hes planning on going back to manage in Germany and wants em for his team.
