Anyone who’s refusing to sign a contract with 12 month left should be sold, and the money reinvested in a replacement. It’s when you’re doing this for multiple key positions when it’s gets tricky. Could be for a keeper and two new centre backs here
I think it’s Isgrove. Whoever it is, sounds like they’ve been given daft advice (you might as well hear what your current employer offers even if you then decline). It’s a small market and a young player getting a reputation for being difficult after one good year in L1 isn’t going to do him any good. Barnsley and Luton got promoted on a great team spirit so he should be sold to avoid disrupting that.
But they're not slaves so if they dont want to be sold because they want to get more wages what do you do?

Depends on their attitude, if their being difficult then you make em train with the kids, if their being professional about it, you play them if they deserve their place.
Then it’s about tact for me and honesty from both parties, communication is key! The player needs to just come out with that he would be open to staying if he’s given so much a week. Or our backroom staff need to come out and say listen we value you and are willing to go to this certain amount a week. But both parties should be under the assumption that if a contract isn’t agreed by a certain date then we’ll be looking to move the player on.
Some players would be best advised to to stay with Barnsley in the Championship and watch their personal stock grow from there. Others would be better off grabbing the money now. no names mentioned...
As much as I don’t want to lose good players anyone who’s deal is up in a years time & doesn’t want to sign a new one needs to be sold. We can’t have another January 2017 scenario unfolding midway through the season. Get new players in & give them a proper pre-season to get to know their team mates & give ourselves the best chance of succeeding
