Whilst I agree it's 20k higher than what Peterborough have been offering.. sure they were offering a similar position unpaid!!
£20k per year for a graduate with other qualifications and 2 years experience don't forget. What an absolute pi*s take!
Hi Newsbot, you've certainly got your finger on the pulse of where to advertise this vacancy. You can't move on this BBS for out of work sports scientists, 40,000 in debt after taking out loans to pay for their degree, now desperate to take a job at 20 grand a year while those they teach and supervise earn that much a month. They do 40 hours a week, the players 40 hours a month.
Looks like a case of pay as little as possible knowing plenty will apply to work at a football club, over earning more somewhere else.
It’s a problem across football for these sort of roles. When I finished my degree in economics there was a lot of talk about clubs wanting that sort of data background for their sports science teams. I had a look at a few jobs including Man City but I could earn pretty much double on a graduate scheme at a big corporate. They’re missing out on a load of talented people by offering such crap salaries.
Jesus. Well they do ask for two years experience in pro sports in the criteria. So maybe you can go work at Peterborough for two years after you've finished your degree and masters. Then you can land your dream role at Barnsley on 20k a week and you might just be able to afford to move out your parents house by the time you're 40.
Back in 1994 when I worked for my Uncle who was an absolute w***ker, totally out of touch with the reality and stuck in the 1950s he was trying to recruit a graduate with in depth practical engineering experience for 6k a year. I told him he was living in cloud cuckoo land. I may be missing some significant info here. Maybe you basically get the summer off but on first glance BFC seem to be living in a similar alternate reality based on this ad.
Probably to higher paid jobs. There’s lots of posts pointing out how insulting it is to only pay someone with that level of qualification and experience such a low salary but there’s the other side of it too. They only think it’s worth spending that much on keeping the players healthy and injury free. It’s very short sighted, they’re unlikely to get anyone good applying and if by some miracle they do, they won’t be able to retain them.
Starting salary is around £20k https://www.futureactive.co.uk/job-...port-how-to-become-a-sports-scientist-gen-sub
Fair enough Gally but you're quoting a starting salary there. BFC are after someone with experience. It is pretty low.
If it's essential to have • A track record of designing and delivering both gym and field-based athletic development programmes. • Relevant experience as a Sports Scientist/ Strength & Conditioning Coach within elite sport. And desirable to have • 2 or more years experience within professional sport. Is that someone looking for a starting salary?
