Gone on for years that, swapping suppliers for cheaper ones, it’s relatively unregulated and surgeries often just pick the cheaper option without proper research etc.
They dont get paid if there are missed appointments. The cost is against their business rather than footed by the NHS. You would be surprised how much GPs cost the NHS by referring people to out patients rather than having them treated by the nurse practitioner in the surgery.
Mine in Farnham is better but has got much worse over the last few years. you can always get a same day emergency appointment if you phone up - but not in the surgery its at Farrnham Hospital - in a special unit which several surgeries use called Farnham Integrated Care Centre. If you just want to see a doctor for a non emergency they release appointments at 8am for 2 weeks later so if you are waiting logged in to their online system and hit refresh every few seconds at 8am you can get one - otherwise you need to keep trying until you get a cancellation which can happen any time of course. In theory you can do it by phone but thats less user friendly For a repeat prescription I just order online - though once a year I need the doctor to agree to renew the repeat - last time I did it over the phone - booked a telephone appointment which lasted all of 30 seconds Dr - are your symptoms worse or better than 1 year ago me - the same Dr - OK fine I will renew for one more year Ideally you would know a couple of weeks ahead if you need a doctor but now if you have something which you need to see a doctor about sometime in the next few days your choice is wait two weeks or declare an emergency - which usually it isnt
I use Echo for my prescriptions. It's an app on my phone, and sends a request directly to my Dr for a repeat prescription which then gets sent in the post. Never had an issue with it.
Also I heart is available in Barnsley if you can't get an appointment at your own Dr. https://www.iheartbarnsley.org.uk The Service - iHeart Barnsley
I queued up at mine doctors at 8.30 went in to book a same day to be told none available yet the druggie behind me managed to get in to get his methadone fix it’s the wrong people getting priority appointments
Exactly the same as mine. Dearne Valley practice who are simply appalling. I once had a GP ranting at me for not booking my appointment with my regular GP. I told her I couldn't. She told me not to wait until the last minute to which I replied I'd booked the appointment 3 weeks earlier, the only one available. After checking this and making no apology for being completely f*cking wrong she proceeded to blame me for the state of things for voting Tory. Patronising, condescending arseholes. I have a theory that they never actually treat anyone. It takes that long to get an appointment you either die or get better. Thanks for the heads up on Victoria Medical Centre though, I was in the process of moving there.
Correct mate, this has been implemented by the NHS, the GP's are supposed to review medication and cut out drugs not required, this then cuts the bill so saving the NHS cash. when my old dad went into a home it turned out the tablet he took for 5 years was supposed to have been for 3 months....
Not as simple as shown on TV...Pharmacy2u in't 1/ What if it won't go through the letterbox....stories of medication being left in weird places 2/ What if your prescription isn't ready when they request it....Back to you, your problem 3/ What if it's wrong, the local Pharmacy will help chase up through your GP....they won't 4/ Who actually sorts your medication, not the spectacled white coated actor on tv...so who,bet it's not a controlled pharmacy Beware
Got to say ours is good. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nightmare getting an appointment quickly, but they do have a system in place where you will be seen if you need to be. Basically it’s a 8:30 -10 drop in. Everyone who arrives gets seen as long as they arrive within that timeframe. You just have to be willing to queue. Within that they have triage, so they have a list of problems on certain days that you can see a specialist nurse for and jump the queue. Also have a patient access website to book appointments and prescriptions on. Self check in on arrival. Pretty good really. It can be done. Also in Sheffield we are blessed with the 24 hour drop in which ive used on a couple of occasions; and the Children’s Hospital, which is absolutely brilliant. Sadly it’s a postcode lottery for health services, and it’s wrong that people struggle to get the help they need.
Sounds just like the good old days. We never had missed appointments when I was a kid, cos there were never any appointments. Turn up, queue, get sorted, then bugger off. Bit of a pain waiting around, but not the end of the world. I really miss the good old days. You just don't get proper queues these days...
Not all surgeries have the apointnent system. Mine doesn't at Monk Bretton, just drip in between given tines and wait your turn. Repeats are done over phone or counter
my repeat is hand delivered and just drops through the letterbox every friday and 2 weeks worth bank holidays or if i'm going away ( elliots that was up park grove but is now near the lambra centre)
