If the reports in today's paper are correct, our former keeper might come to regret leaving us to join Stoke City. Looks like the Potters have now shut the door on any move for Jack Butland and have placed a £25 million price tag on him. Manager Nathan Jones has said " anyone who comes in now, would leave us short in replacing Jack. Therefore the shut-off time has gone for that." Bournemouth and Villa would like to sign him, but won't pay the price demanded. Stoke paid £3.5 million for him in 2013 and want £25 million for him because they have to pay Birmingham 20% of any fee they recieve for him. Looks as though if Butland stays, Davies could well be warming the bench week in week out, which would seriously harm his international chances.
I don’t think he was ever signed to be number 1. If Butland had left, he’d have been replaced. As much as I rated Davies, for us, if you’re a side with aspirations of the play-offs then he’s not good enough.
All obvious stuff. Indeed the clue is in the post: 'would leave us short in replacing jack.' I don't think there was ever a question he'd be their #1 this coming season, and I don't think he care$ either.
He will have to get used to bench warming on a regular basis for the first time in a number of years. Lets see how he reacts to that after being used to game time and that the money was worth it.
True, but a lot of players still tend to get in if they are at a decent club. I think he will still be involved. Hedges for a quick example. I’d also say Butland might still go anyway - sometimes clubs use this tactic to get transfers hurried up don’t they.
Adam did some good stuff for us but you can't blame the lad to try and feather his own nest. Shame though because I think he will regret shifting when we are on the cusp of something great. Possibly!
Forgot about Adam Federici - Davies is 2nd choice at best even if Butland goes. Currently 3rd choice.
Not even on the bench today. Agent busily trying to negotiate a season-long loan to Newport County to put him on the Wales radar??
Not a great start for Pinnock either lol. Did no one tell them about the curse of leaving Oakwell for better things
It may well ( a bit) but footballers want to be playing, he's gone from a No1 and captain to possibly a non starter, its bound to hurt
Genuinely don’t think it will, it’s not a surprise to him that they have the other top class keepers there and I expect not playing was part of contract negotiations. To paraphrase ‘I see so many kids that love being footballers more than they love playing football’
