Was chatting about this to a friend who lives in the Midlands. She still talks about going round Barnsley on a weekend as being a classic night out.
Things have changed beyond recognition now, but back then, the weekend seemed to start with Thursdays, Friday was singles "pulling" night, Saturdays more for couples.
We used to have a set route, starting with George Yard, then over to that bar that sold Castaways, then Bodegas, Chennells, Ticket Office, Theatre.
And Whispers. Many a night in there. Wasn't a big fan of Hedonism to be honest.
Thing is, it's just too expensive to go out these days.
    Wonder when things changed?

Still go into town nowadays every now n again on a saturday. Only do the likes of Number 7, Arcade Alehouse, Annie Murrays.. Not bothered about most of the other bars..
Saturday seems to be more the older folk in comparison to Friday.

It’s not that expensive, even if you avoid the **** holes.

Start at the Yard for some nibbles and cocktails, garrison, white bear, evoo, 00 bar, jocks cavern, that gin bar, Londoner, temple of muses, Soul lounge.

Call it an average of 3.50 a pint.

Most of these tick off my night - Garrison, White bear, 00 bar, jock cavern all very good on a saturday.

I occasionally drive thru late on on a friday and Saturday night and its dead. When i used to go out every weekend round 99/00 time it was rammed every where with people all over streets. Now its like a ghost town.... only pub with people in is that one on corner opposite where walkabout used to be.

Early 90s. Manx, Shaky, Chennels, No 7, maybe Browns, Shambles, Draycotts, back to Manx usual Setdy.

In the earlier years it would have been that pub that is now under the Alhambra whose name I can't recall.

, We used to do a "dive" tour - Temple, Gardeners Arms, Wheatsheaf, Rose and Thistle, one on Pitt St. I've forgot the name of, and finish at the one on Wellington St that is now a Turkish restaurant. Happy days.
