When the new CEO was appointment - can’t even remember the guys name - he specifically said on Radio Sheff the club would tweak the plan to bring in some ready made player and some quality veterans. A few weeks into the job he has never mentioned that again and said on sky sports the club would not deviate from the plan of signing youngsters. So inbetween him joining the club and now what has changed?
I think there’s some truth in it , one thing falling out behind the scenes asking for experience, it’s another undermining your players in public to cover your back and playing the fans off against your employer. Keith Hill did the same thing , as someone has already mentioned . . I like Stendel but there’s only one winner in football when you start criticising the owners and it’s not the Head Coach
We have a reasonable history of breeding a few good players, finding the odd European gem & reviving careers of good pros. To depend on this happening every season is foolhardy & we've got it wrong as often as we've got it right. As a whole business model, it's doomed to fail. I credited this new board with more nous, & I reckon Daniel told them the same. His position had obviously become untenable & he got himself sacked for the payoff.
Probably an element of truth along lines of: DS: I want to sign some experience PC: we don’t sign experience DS: But I need them PC: Our policy is clear DS: I can’t do the job properly without PC: If you can’t do they job, we don’t need you...
I think that Daniel looked increasingly frustrated by recent results and gave his honest opinion, which I see as a strength, even if it was critical. He has basically been saying that he cannot ask the players to give more than they have done over many recent games (probably except Preston), but has implied that the squad lacks quality, combined with experience. He is right. If his honesty has cost him the job, I would still say that he said the right things, even if it conflicted with the philosophy of the board. I do wonder if maybe he was relieved in the end to go. He has accomplished another very positive season to add to his CV and really ought to get a reasonable job back in Germany, that's providing Sunderland don't make him an offer he can't refuse and I wouldn't bet against that happening. It would be strange if Jack Ross came the other way now, but stranger things have happened and I would think him a strong candidate who knows his football. Adkins? Would he come? Ainsworth? We've been strongly linked before. The board need to think and be pragmatic now and decide what needs to be done if we are to survive in the Championship. In January, in my opinion (possibly not that of the board), we need to sign half-season loans of quality, experienced players in the form of a central defender, holding midfielder, left back and proven goal-scorer. If they keep us up, whilst helping to bring along the youngsters, all well and good. If we slip back into League One, I wonder how this squad would fare back there. Half season loans of quality, experienced players in those positions will not break the bank. If the board think they can find a manager who can suddenly add two/three years' experience to this squad, they are being unrealistic. Time to be pragmatic. I really like Daniel Stendel. If I saw him around, I would buy him a pint to thank him for the great memories of last season and the many superb performances, as well as the very professional and caring way in which he man-managed the squad, getting the best out a lot of players and developing the likes of Pinnock, Mowatt etc to the point where they have advanced confidently to the next level. Thank you, Daniel. Have a pint on me, or two, ……. Steady on now. Not too many!!
Think you’ve hit the nail on the head here. Head Coach is openly criticising the owners and the fans agree and criticise too. Regardless of whatever, if you don’t do as you are told by the boss, or slag them off on TV and Radio, then it’s likely to you’re going to get sacked. A final point is, we have major Shareholders who are Chinese. Respect is quite a thing in Chinese business. Something like this might be seen to be disrespectful to the owners.
I don't think its remotely comparable with some of the things Heckingbottom came out with. He had some very explicit digs at the club. Stendel has just said a few times that he feels we need experience. If that's a dig, Christ, we're in a dictatorial state where independence and honesty is frowned up and punished.
Respect is a two way street. It has to be earned by showing respect. The Asian owners may - should - know that. The Americans maybe not.
If this is true I'm finished with the club until they sell up. Too many c(r)ooks (business men) playing football manager. I've sat back and allowed them to make decisions. It's time for a director of football who actually knows the league and the English game. We need someone who works collaboratively with a manager not tie his hands. Too many owners in football trying to make a quick buck whilst involving themselves in something they know **** about. Stendel got Bahre and Woodrow and sod all else last year. We sold Potts and Bradshaw to balance the books. We've been sold a pack of lies.
They've took our money and sold us a load of ********. If they think that's disrespectful it's time the town showed em how we feel. No more of our hard earned cash and the middle finger.
