Done a quick review of possible candidates below, but in all honesty I can't see any of these ending up as head coach at Oakwell except Adam Murray (in the short term). IMO it will either be an internal appointment or someone unknown from Europe.

Nigel Adkins - Mr positive,he did a very good job last season at Hull and rebuilt his reputation a little bit following unsuccessful spells at Reading and Sheffield United, however he refused to sign a new contract at the KC due to issues with the Allam family and how the club would move forward. Plays decent football, but can't see him working within our restricted policy of signing players aged 18-22.

Phil Parkinson - Handled himself very well during all the shenanigans at Bolton but wouldn't want to watch his style of football. It's not like we even have the players to implement a direct, kick and rush approach.

Gareth Ainsowrth - Very impressed with where he taken Wycombe on next to nothing and his teams seem to have a blend of youth and experience. On the downside, the football isn't the most pleasing on they eye. Would he be willing to move north? Like Nigel Adkins, can't see him working within our restricted transfer policy plan.

Jan Siewert - No ta, was a disaster at Huddersfield, negative boring football.

Gary Rowett - Had good spells at Burton Albion and Birmingham but walked out on Derby and then sacked at Stoke following an unsuccessful spell. Possibly no.1 contender for the Millwall job. He would get us more organised and difficult to beat, but I think we would struggle for goals. As above, don't think he would work within our transfer policy.

Adam Murrary - Know nothing about the fella, could he be given 3-4 games to see if he can pick up some points? If he does then maybe a short term contract until the end of the season?

In summary, there's been a clear shift in the plan this summer (whether deliberate or not) but I just can't see many coaches from this country wanting to work within such a restricted transfer policy, None of the above would want a relegation on their CV which is very likely given the players they wil be working with.

Unfortunately reckon it will be an unknown yes man. Wouldn’t mind Adkins from the list above

Ignoring the fact that I'd rather we weren't in this position to begin with, I'm left wishing Swansea had hammered Stoke 4-0 and Nathan Jones was available.

This list fills me with no joy whatsoever. But as we know, it'll likely be a curve ball appointment anyway.

Of that list, my top three would be Parkinson (knows the division and has an amazing record with teams in dire straits), or Ainsworth (with whom we were linked before, would fit the first team coach role, but who doesn't know the Championship), or Adkins (although some of his record is iffy, even though his tenure at Hull was not bad at all and may not rate the first team coach role). Otherwise, there must be a whole raft of younger coaches of Championship and Premiership teams who would want to step into this coaching role. Anyone know any? I will check my records, but probably won't know their performances with youth, or reserve teams.

All I've done is taken possible candidates who are listed on the various betting websites and passed comment. I don't think Nigel Adkins or Gary Rowett would be bad options.
Who would you like to see brought in? The frustrating thing is that from that list I can't even see any of them being interested due to our restricted transfer policy. IMO we are then left with two options:

    1.) Promote from within.
2.) Appoint someone unknown from Europe who none of us have heard of before.

It’ll be someone foreign we’ve never heard of and either be another Morais or a good appointment. The scattergun approach seems to apply to both squad and managerial appointments

If the board are consistent, they should follow the process they did when appointing Stendel. After all, surely these players were recruited on the basis they should fit into the style of play the coach wanted and had been outlined in Crynes play style document and the board seem to have adopted.

If Stendel had left at the end of the season, I suspect Tonge may well have been brought through. But its far too early for him, and wouldn't be fair to throw him to the lions as well.

So that leaves rank 4, 5, 23, whatever is on the coaching dataset.

The issue this leaves is that they may well want their own coaches (understandably) to help them, especially if from a different country, and especially if not German. That would leave us either having to get rid of Stern and Tonge, or essentially demote them if there is room back in the academy somewhere.

That would be a crying shame to lose all 3.
