    Was a chick magnet at the time. Shame the chick I married was a total whore & drug addict. I'm now driving a Dacia Logan. The least likely car to be broken into in the car park & only £20 per year road tax. How times change.

    After starting out on motorbikes and graduating ??? from 2 wheels to three with a Reliant Supervan, my first proper car was a Triumph Toledo 1.3. 'Twas a fine vehicle till wife at the time decided to park it on its side wrapped around a lamp post ( no one hurt )
    Replaced with a Ford Capri 1.3 G.T.
    Good performance with 2 up but sluggish as Dave Regis with more than 2 up.

    Twin leading front brakes, each shoe had it's own adjuster, absolute nightmare to get them balanced. Add to that shimming the ball joints on a regular basis and dirty hands became a regular weekend occourance lol.

    I might add I joined the navy in 1990 and spent 5 years driving a warship around the sea before I passed my car test in 1995. It’s quite easy actually and unless you are entering or leaving port there’s not much to bump into!

    Jealous. I used to dream of having a Capri but was reliant on my parents to assist with the cash and they wanted something more "sensible". So I ended up with my gold sprayed Fiesta. Which was a proper heap of sh*t. But I loved it anyway.

    Yes, it had it's moments, but was a total nightmare. A mate showed me how to adjust the drum brakes, TBH the whole car was a white elephant & despite a lot of fun times in my youth, it's idiocyncracies left me saying farewell in 1988...

    I had a Ford Capri. It went to many an away game including Leicester away.

    we had the scarves out of the windows (I think that was the fashion back then) and my top tracks on the cassette tape.

    Got to Filbert Street and the game was off, this then explained the hand signals we’d had from other cars on the way down.

    A Ford Escort Mk2 estate in terracotta red..1.3 engine...had 110 out of it heading to Loughborough'.....took us to Bournemouth away 89ish and blew the brake servo going down avoiding running over a dog that ran out of a field and had to drive back the next day with only the handbrake as brakes :)

    Mine was a Beetle too, Lordtyke. In this case, a 13 year old version (in 1980). The back seat had been replaced by a sort of bench and the whole of the interior was fur-lined. With any awareness at all I'd have been embarrassed to exhibit it in public but hey, when you're young and it's your first car you don't question these things! I blew the engine up on the M62 attempting to get to an away match at Hull with a mate Terry, who often led me astray! Thankfully another mate who had a backstreet garage retightened it for £130 (including the second hand replacement engine). £295, I ran it for two and a half years and got some sort of trade-in when I parted with it (illusory, I know). Had it when I first courted Lady Kaht and after 38 years of xxx gridlock xxx wedlock, we're still together! Growing old disgracefully! :)

    Adored it and will one day get another.

    I know nothing about how cars actually work and have no practical skills whatsoever so when the bizarre hearing system (some levers in between the seats) stopped working I bought a warmer coat.

    The sound of an old Beetle engine going by always makes me wish I still had one.

    1993 Mark V Escort. Three door, 1.3 petrol. Allegedly 60 bhp but by the time I got it, in 2001, I reckon it had lost a good chunk of that.

    Felt like you had to get out and push when you hit even the slightest incline.
