It's funny how some folks anger is oddly directed at an individual who hasn't been in government, nor signed off on policies dealing with terrorists. Yet those who do get a free pass because *insert right-wing ideology here*

So Johnson sets off too early...has to go back...nearly drops the wreath...lays it upside down all while looking like he'd just got in after a night out and you pull Corbyn for not going full curtsey

This is a very fair post and I have the utmost respect for your service. I would just add one point, one of the few politicians who wouldn't have sent you to Iraq is Jeremy Corbyn

Then I would have agreed with is decision, but would he have sent us to the balcans where both men, women and kids were being ethnically cleansed, or the first gulf war when Iraq invaded Kuwait, there are times when we shouldn't have been involved second gulf war for example (Imo) but we also need a Goverment that WILL deploy our armed forces to aid a country (s) in need of our help, I dont think Corbyn would deploy us under these circumstances and for that reason I wouldnt want a leader like this all opinions of course but that's my personal take on him

Really don’t understand why people associate the Poppy with governments sending armed forces into right or wrong conflicts.
The Poppy is nothing more than a charity fundraiser to support ex service people who have chosen to give their time (and sometimes lives) to protect their country.
If people have issue with where they are sent take it up with the government at the time not a charity.

It's not just about Ulster though and that is the point so badly missed by McClean and others. If it wasn't for members of our armed forces, including Catholics, paying the ultimate sacrifice in past conflicts then the likes of him probably wouldn't be living the lifestyle that they are today. It seems that these days it's too much to expect a little respect for a few days to honour those that gave us the freedoms we enjoy today.

I believe that people should want to wear a poppy but nobody should be forced to.

McClean couldn't even join his teammates for the last post. I think he's a disgrace and I think his reasoning is more sinister than he admits.

If we are at home around this date next year I definitely won't be going. Way too much bitterness being stoked up by people with little or no understanding of the issues involved. In some ways it even seems to me like an extension of the Brexit debate. People becoming entrenched in their opinions and refusing to budge. And being abusive in the process. What a sad place we inhabit.

I've never viewed the Poppy Appeal or Remembrance as anything other than being about those individuals who, without question under duty, put their minds and bodies in the firing line. That includes soldiers of "enemy" forces who did likewise. I've met enough ex servicemen during my fundraising for the Royal British Legion to have left me in no doubt of their compassion for front line soldiers of other nations.

The futility or justification of the decision to go to war, for me, is a completely separate discussion.

ANNNDDDD if it means so much to you why are you watching on the TV rather than paying your respects an actual remembrance service ?

Me neither. Embarrassed to be a Reds fans Yesterday - on and off the pitch..
I attended a ceremony this morning and laid a wreath on behalf of my organisation to remember those from this area who made the ultimate sacrifice. Not to honour the nation, or respond to the many pointless conflicts we have and continue to, involve ourselves in. Just to recognise personal sacrifice from people like me and those who went before me.

The fact this farce of a ‘remembrance’ continues to take place at football grounds up and down the Country boils my piss and is IMO is disrespectful in itself. If people want to properly mark the event, do something radical, and get off your fat arses and attend one. Maybe then you wouldn’t have the time or inclination to relate this to the ridiculous ‘outrage’ you feel about McClean or Corbyn.
