...assuming, between now and the end of the season, we dont lose more games than the three teams above us, we likely only need to win 2 more matches than any one of them to survive in the same period. 6 points is nothing like an insurmountable gap if, as is happening a team's form improves, when at the bottom when teams around them tend to lose/draw more than they win. It is different when fighting to get into the playoff as a 6 point gap is harder to close given teams are at the top because they are winning far more often (WBA apart!!) COYR!
After 12 games Charlton had 21 points and were 7th in the table. In their following 16 league games they have acquired 8 points (1 win 5 draws 10 defeats) and are losing players left right and centre.
Those are the 3 massive games charlton and luton away and wigan at home. We need 9 points from those games or a minimum of 7. Stoke away would be nice to win but i think they will start to pull away from bottom soon. Its between us currently in the bottom 3 Charlton and huddersfield. Those games against them teams will determine the season. If we give them 3 points its going to be very tough to stay up.
You’re spot on with your assessment. However, our problem all season has been terrible performances in games against teams at the bottom. That can’t continue or we’re done for. Charlton away a week on Saturday is looking a massive game for us.
https://footystats.org/england/championship/home-away-league-table 0.43 points per game away from home is what's killing us. For whatever reason we can't play away from Oakwell and only Luton are worse away and they beat us easily at Oakwell.
In fairness, we played Luton, Charlton, Wigan and Stoke before Struber arrived and put some fire in their bellies. I don't think we'll be as hopeless as earlier in the season against these teams. We better bloody not be anyway.
Charlton we threw the victory away at the death, Luton and Stoke we hung ourselves, 2 darn after 4 mins and Collins gifting stoke an easy lead, Wigan away a point at the time was most welcomed. Fire has been in their bellies all season, the defence has made some mighty **** ups throughout the season and still do, but not as many recently has time is seeing them gel more.
