The thing that strikes me is that the club did nothing at all in advance, has done apparently little since, was slow to react at the time and the officials from the club that represented us at Wembley were woeful and could offer little to no information the enquiry required. This was damning on the club, making the FA issue a larger fine - and the fine is still only £20k.

Don’t get me wrong, I couldn’t pay a £20k fine all in one go, but I can’t imagine it is going to affect a championship football club a great deal. Hardly a deterrent to force other clubs or ours to do better.

We didn’t get a fine because of the chanting, we got a fine because we did literally nothing about it and couldn’t name a single policy to have prevented it in the first place or to stop it from happening again. Our safety officer dismissed/excused the behaviour by saying that he should be used to it as a professional footballer. The club’s incompetence got us a fine, not the chanting alone.

Why do you always have to twist things? It’s tiring with you. Reply to someone else next time - the board was better when you was on your break.

Not twisting anything. This thread is discussing racist chanting against an Irish player and your response is **** him. Go play football in Ireland.

At best it's defending and justifying the chanting and don't even bother trying to argue that it isn't because it's written in black and white for the entire BBS to read.

This post highlights the issue with having an ex footballer as a CEO.
Dane might well know the integral workings of a football club from his experience within a footballing environment.
But an experienced CEO of a multi million pound business may not have had things in place in advance but the minute proceedings against the club were made would have ensured policies and procedures were in place and the person sent would have been fully versed in the actions taken and implemented moving forward.

Already largely covered by Supertyke but we don’t come out of this very well (click on tweet for entire article).

A slight diversion from the main aspect but does anyone think the level of ineptitude and apathy shown by our so called 'safety officer' extends to other aspect of his role?
Perhaps the lack of leadership and quality (or lack ) of stewarding may explain why SYP's finest and the relevant authorities are stricter and more pedantic when applying the rules re segregation of fans etc. at Oakwell than is often seen at away grounds as they have little faith in our ability to manage potential issues. Just a thought.

    It's just sad to see.

And what's sadder is people who are giving it the old 'go and play football in Ireland'

    Truly, truly pathetic.

Edit: And saying 'but what about Millwall' is no defence whatsoever. I don't give a flying **** about Millwall. If they want to be racist scum then they can. I don't want my football club to follow suit.

Agreed. If the people we employ weren't so rubbish at their jobs I think SYP would be more comfortable allowing us to play our bigger matches at 3 pm, selling every North Stand seat and splitting the North Stand like it was built to do.

Ask the EFL. As a Chartered Safety Practitioner and a qualified football safety officer I'm telling you what the law is.

I would guess because they are able to document their efforts in trying to combat it.

These freedom fighters chose to free children's limbs from their bodies: collateral damage you will say.
Who are 'the British' who made decisions? Certainly not me or millions of other British people over the years. Our deaths are acceptable to you though. Up the ra....

Up until the past couple of years for the majority of games all stewards (up to 110) were employed by Doyle security. According to the regular inspections by the EFL the standard of stewarding was considered very good. Recently there have been less Doyle stewards with the additional stewards being supplemented from another contractor. As for the role of SYP; responsibility at football matches is a complicated business. Whilst the Club has overall safety responsibility and the police have responsibility for public order, the responsibility can be transferred subject to the protocol of the Police having/taking primacy of control.
