If the queen dies the TV stations already have videos prepared to play, they have plans in place for what to do. If there is a nuclear war the TV stations have plans in place. Why does the government of the country have seemingly nothing in place for an infectious disease despite the fact that just 6 years ago we witnessed an ebola outbreak that had it made it to the UK could well have caused the same devastation? Why was this warning not taken seriously and systems and plans put in place just in case? At the end of the day pretty much every disease and pandemic is caused by contact. The vulnerable are always going to be the vulnerable. Why are we now trying to think how best to protect the vulnerable and reduce contact? They're all spread in largely the same way so the solution to minimise it is largely the same and yet it seems no plans were in place at all. Its like picking Aidy White every week and having no sub on the bench for if he gets injured.
It really does seem that way doesn't it. The entire planet seems to have had absolutely no plans in place except for maybe south south but I'm not sure if they had plans in place or were just quick with formulating a plan.
The countries woefully unprepared for any kind of crisis. Unfortunately every time another party brought the subject up before the election the topic was dragged straight back to Brexit.
I watched The Flu That Killed 50 Million last night, which was a documentary made in 2018 about the Spanish flu outbreak in 1918. It was spookily similar to what's going on now. A scientist in the programme said she was expecting another pandemic, but thought it wouldn't be anywhere near as deadly because of the drugs we already have.
The government has plans for a pandemic - or at least they do at local authority level. I was working in Leeds City Hall about 20 years ago and found the DR plans for Leeds. A big book, with everything from the plans for a plane crash on the city centre, to a radioactive bomb and many others. Central government also has plans, but all plans change when they meet the enemy.
I think the years of cuts/austerity and Margaret’s famous “no such thing as society “ belief, will come home to roost with a vengeance.
