Give me a petition where I pay an extra 5p in the pound on tax to help pay public sector front line workers and I'd sign it yesterday. I'd go so far as an extra 10p in the pound, but after that I'd struggle to pay my rent, although I wouldn't oppose it.

You're an accountant. Just how bad is it for small business owners?

I'm with you all the way. But I have clapped the NHS on a Thursday evening with my NHS-working missus. I also clap when she lets me have a beer.

Just wait till only Chris Grayling is standing... time to find a very high building to jump off at that stage.

I want Boris to recover. I don't want anyone to die from this virus, and I think many thousands too many have already died from it in the UK.

I didn't clap for Boris. I won't clap for Boris. *If* he dies, be will instantly become a martyr, lauded as the hero who fought the brave fight against the virus overlooking his mistakes in the handling of the pandemic. Then, in a few years time when the public inquiry happens, he will be scapegoated and blamed for everything by his friends in government to get out of taking the blame for their part in this. If he has made mistakes through deliberate policy, laziness or unforeseen reaction to his decisions, then I want him around to face up to the consequences of those mistakes.

The story of Boris will become a modern morality tale. The story of the man who lied and blustered his way to power, only to find that his lies and bluster made him powerless in the face of nature.

I'm working from home and the first week I was taking as many phone calls in a day as I would normally get in a month. All from clients who were worried about how their business would manage with a lockdown and also what funds were available from Gov't. Most of the information I passed on was based on the outlines that had been given by gov't without details. Such as 'how does the furlough scheme work' 'when do I get my grant' and from the self employed 'Will I get any help'. I tried to instil some calm and a wait and see message which on the whole seemed to work.

Second week when the details were announced was more of advice mainly in respect of the payroll furloughing. The calculation of furloughed amounts etc so that payrolls can be run and the client's employees can be paid.

Problem with weekly paid employees: if business is cash rich then fine, if not then how can the business fund even the 80% payment for say four or five weeks. Gov't say go to your bank for a Covid -19 loan. Good luck there. My analogy is say I cut myself and I'm bleeding out, the doctors all agree I need a tranfusion but the blood bank can't deliver for a week. A week later there is a supply of blood but I'm dead.

Will businesses survive the pandemic ? too early to tell and it really depends how long the lockdown lasts. Busninesses would have to be judged case by case basis but I think if things start to be released no later than July then I think most will be poorer but should still be around .

One thing I will comment on is that of all the people I have spoken with and it is well over a hundred there was no sense of panic in fact there was a mood of stoicism.

I've rarely been busier and most of it is unbillable. (virtue signalling alert :D) But in some respects it's good to try to help. Also I don't know how people can cope with having nothing to do all day, I'd go bonkers.

    Must crack on
