Interesting to see online news outlets now reporting the man who said he witnessed Cummings on the 2nd occasion has now admitted he made it up as a joke, doctoring his strava app to show his incorrect location. Regardless of what punishment Cummings should receive for his initial actions, this is probably more serious. It cannot be dismissed as a joke and the bloke must face criminal charges. Just thinking of the amount of time and money this has taken up. I notice the BBC or Sky aren't very quick to report the story, surprise, surprise.

Also another witness now shown to also have made his own 250 mile journey.

To top it all off the witch hunt looks like it was orchestrated by Labour peer Baroness Armstrong.

Changes a lot if all this is true, all the media outlets except the silent BBC and Sky are shifting their stance to saying Cummings may have committed a minor breach, distancing themselves from the witch hunt.

Don't think we will ever know the real truth, just think now the media need to move on and focus on what the world is doing to eradicate this horrible virus. Cummings obviously now on very thin ice and he can't afford nor survive any more negative press.

I've kept a fairly open mind on this so far, but if those reports are correct the ex teachers 'joke' (lie) needs to be dealt with by the police strongly.

It doesn't change anything. Cummings has admitted he went to Barnard Castle and his reason was ridiculous.

Not a dig at you personally dragon but that is the exact response most of the people who were out for blood and wouldn't let the issue drop before are using.

I've never understood the amount of press and anger this received. Ok he is one of the rule makers, but at the end if the day we all have our own common sense and will to protect ourselves and those that we hold dear. So the argument of Cummings did this so I am going to break the rules as well as daft really.

I do agree tho, media needs to move on from this.

Agree, but we can't defend the bloke if true who in reporting a false crime shouldn't be allowed to walk away without facing charges.

With great power comes great responsibility. Either uphold it or don't whinge when events you actually object to turn up the same outcome.

it was obvious that the 2nd trip wasn’t right on Monday when it was used to support ‘many of the media reports are untrue’.

Except ALL BUT ONE of the facts the media were reporting were true.

The story hasn’t unravelled - the bloke sat in Downing St and admitted every other detail.

It's not a witch hunt. Cuntings did break the lockdown rules and DID take his wife out for her birthday. I will keep banging on about it because his rules put my job, my home and my freedom at risk whilst he carried on doing what he wanted.

So presumably you want Cummings charged with breaking the lockdown. You want cummings sacked and then you want the second witness charged with wasting police time?

Believe what you want as you are rightly entitled to. But not what 90% of the press are now saying. I don't care for the bloke but could see from day 1 that this would just end up as being a witch hunt.

But nobody should surely criticise Cummings yet not also the one who lied to the police and the guy who initially reported seeing him who had also travelled 250 miles.

Go hand in hand for me.

    His source is "The Sun"
The other witness who drove a long way did so only after the government relaxed the guidelines and announced that you could drive anywhere in England.
He followed the guidelines in place at the time, unlike Cummins
He went to collect his daughter who was self isolating for the previous 7 weeks after arriving from Canada.
    Nothing to see here

Ps the teacher made a long journey AFTER the rules were changed to allow long journeys. Even raising that as a point is like saying that somebody who takes a chocolate bar when it's given out as a free gift at Tesco is the same as someone who stole a chocolate bar a week earlier from the same store

Yes they go hand in hand like driving at 72 mph on a motorway and driving after drinking 10 pints.

He should be charged with breaking the lockdown yes, as should the other guy who did. As for the punishment, it's not for me or for you to decide on that. Equally the guy who reported a false story, deliberately fabricated should be charged. Again not for the general public or mob protests to decide on the punishment.

You’re getting your head in a pickle over nowt.

Cummings went into work when his wife had symptoms - he admitted it!

he drove 250 miles to Durham - he admitted it

he then drove 30 miles to a local beauty spot and played in the woods - he admitted it

he denied the 2nd trip - which is what the witness has admitted now was a lie.

how is that a ‘witch hunt’?

That can't be true, becuase why report Cummings if he was allowed to be there. Reports are saying the trip was made by the guy at the same time Cummings made his initial trip to Durham.

    1) Cummings himself admitted to his actions, from his own story and his own story alone we can see that he broke lockdown

    2) The person who made the long journey did it after the rules changed to say long journeys are allowed so that is completely irrelevant

    3) If the person who made it up lied to police then he should be done for wasting police time. If he just posted it on social media and someone else told the police about it then that's not a criminal offence

If the bloke has made it up - then he should be charged of course. Two wrongs don't make a right.

But you still cannot defend Cummings. He implemented this lockdown - and then deliberately ignored them.

And the excuse of testing his eyesight? If you put aside all party politics and ask yourself the question:

"If I wanted to test my eyesight, would I get in the car with my wife and 4 year old and drive 30 miles?"

If the answer to that is yes, then you can't be helped.
