That quite a few clubs go into admin and the EFL overlook the fact that many of them have been spending well above their needs..

Then they decide because COVID 19 situation was unique, in the interest of maintaining the structure of the league setup, they decide not to impose punishments on clubs.

I can see it happening, but only if a fair few go into admin. One or two they won't bat an eyelid unless it is one of the so called big clubs.

Well they’ve jumped on Wigan within a day, whilst simultaneously dragging their heels over
    Derby
    Wednesday
    Bambo
    So who knows?
I guess they just rock up for meetings, and say “What shall we natter about today?”

Obviously covid has had a big impact on all aspects of life but I can't help but be a bit peeved at the sporting media and club officials saying all these clubs are now facing the prospect of admin.

Ok yes, develop a financial aid package however I'd insist that money only be allocated out to clubs who clearly have been somewhat prudent with balancing their spending.

Why should financial aid be given to say Wigan when they committed to paying wages and transfer fees they clearly could not sustain.

How about more stringent FFP rules going forward.. ie you have to balance your books to at least break even. Every other business doesn't get the luxury of being able to lose 30m over 3 years. It is ridiculous.

Football clubs need to wake up and live in the real world.

Break even, now that is a level playing field. No wage cap required.. if you have 3 million quid to spend on wages and you decide to sign a player and give him 1 million a year, fine, no problem, you only have 2 million for the rest of your squad though.. Certainly not rocket science to me.

There’s something a bit odd about Wigan’s decision to enter into admin.

I think it might be manufactured and they’re banking on keeping 12 clear if the bottom 3, perhaps seeing it as an opportunity to take advantage of insolvency rules to sweep the decks

VERY risky strategy, 12 point deduction puts them bottom, 5 points from safety.

They’re playing well enough to still get out of it that’s for sure. 4 wins from 6 and they more than likely will. Not much margin for error though....

I was thinking if they went into admin (when), they signed a minimum of 3 players in the summer for around £10m and they bought them in stages (ie moore £4m but maybe its £1m per year over 4 years), they get to keep said players and can then sell, once a new buyer comes in, if they so wish. The selling clubs get shafted ....they get to keep ir trade their assets. They also keep the points they have accumulated through cheating (minus the 12 points) grrrrrr.

I thought all football debts had to be paid, which means we’d get our money? Thought it was all the other poor buggers who lost out?

New owner has to settle any debts to players and league clubs first. So unless new owner is willing to bankroll a model set up to lose money at best what can happen is a fire sale in the Summer. You can almost guarantee Moore will be gone, the young lad who was going to Italy etc.
That’s why some are saying the only hope for them is if Whelan rescues them.

Administrators last night said it doesn’t look good for Wigan, the reasons are not really linked to Corona but the fact the new owner has disappeared and hasn’t produced the cash.

If he were, he'd still pass the EFL's fit & proper test for new owners!:D

    More likely to be:

"Right, what's next on the agenda?"
"Bambo Diaby drug test. Sounds familiar, I think we've had this one before. "
    "Who does he play for?"
    "Burnley"
"Nothing to do with us. Stick it in the bin"

    Yup.

Bought the club, realised how bad an investment football clubs are. Then had C-19 which cost them even more so has basically chalked f£ck on it and put into admin.

Wigan have never been and never will be an investable club. Just not enough fan base to do it. Dave Whelan essentially Bank-rolled an old Division 4 team to a Premier team.

This rigorous testing of fit and proper people by the EFL is working a treat. Maybe a rigorous test of the EFLs rigorous person testing board needs reviewing .
