It’s the expectation that kills you watching Barnsley. Post lockdown expectations were low, three reasonable performances and I’m settling down at 2:30, beer in hand and thinking a win over our relegation rivals would make a great Saturday. Ten minutes in we’re 2-0 down, comedy defending and looking like we’ve never played together. Half time comes and Ben Williams has completed a hat-trick of notoriety, lost both goal scorers from set piece goals and nutmegged for the second goal. Second half lots of changes but no real impact and to cap it off a flourish from Tom Ince to make it four. Special mention to Marcel Ritzmaier for a stand out performance. A night on the vino ahead, no pubs open in Scotland, on to Tuesday when no doubt, by then I’ll be sat in front of the telly with renewed hope.
Well it might be just me but it didn’t look as though any of those four goals mattered with the reactions of our defence . Not one bollocking not one look of dissapointment of their own actions . That says a lot to me Mick McCarthy and Eric Winsanley wold have been visibly fuming at others or themselves after that .
Worst mistake had to be from Mads.. He had plenty of time just to nod the ball out but made the wrong choice. Again though, if the players react in the right way in the next match, we are still in with a great shout.
I know I'm nit-picking but Hammill definitely didn't. Worked his socks off to try and make something happen that day.
Yes, agree with that he did. Ended up chasing shadows though with the attitude of the rest of the squad.
Why not judge the players, manager and the board on the fact we've been in the bottom 3 since September and have just rolled over and died in a match we needed to win. The owner deserve all the criticism they get. It's their ludicrous recruitment and retention policy that's caused this
I can’t say I feel despondent. Our recent performances given the lack of quality in the squad have been tremendous and given us a fighting chance and both manager and team deserve credit for that. We lack quality in most parts of the pitch but have played with determination and endeavour recently. We are quite a bit behind other teams in terms of ability so we have to play to our maximum and hope they have an off day to win games. It’s been a crazy season so anything can happen in the next 5 games. onwards and upwards.
Well all i can say is that the bookies set the odds in accordance with their perception of what would be the most likely outcome. And they were right.
Say what you want about the bookies, My contention is and was always, that result and that performance was not on the cards given what had gone on previous 3 games at both clubs.
You don't have to use them. They can, as they did in this case, tell you that you're idea that we were likely to win was wrong. Had you backed your hunch, you would have lost money.
got to admit i binned it after the 1st half but it makes a change people moaning about the football than the usual suspects of the tooting popular front telling us what we should be upset about today........................... and just for a whinge. . . ritzmaier, douglas baders got better feet
My earlier comments weren't intended to be negative. After our last three results my feeling over today's totally inept performance was one of disappointment. After nearly thirty years supporting the Club I have never watched a game like today's where nobody seemed to take any care with what they were supposed to be doing and gifted three points to a fairly mediocre Stoke team.
I didn’t have a hunch, I was hopeful, I didn’t use them, they are not smarter than me. If they’re so accurate why don’t the favourites always win?
Well if we just use our own particular example: You thought Barnsley would win, or at least not lose They thought Barnsley would more likely lose. You'd be more better employed thinking "why do the bookies win"?
Hey I dont want to stop being positive and staying hopeful..Or have you just been watching frozen? Ps.. Any winners today for you?
Yes - Love (3.40), also Safe Voyage (2.25). Very keen on Victor Ludorum (2.10 Chantilly) Alpine Star (2.55 Chantilly) and Enable (3.35 Sandown) tomorrow. All favourites, but rightfully so. P.S. What is Frozen?
