I see there's loads of talk right now about Coronavirus restrictions and how they'll affect families planning for Xmas. Basic gist seems to be "get ready cos you can't do anything together."

Without going near the rights and wrongs of lockdown, if we just take govt and scientific advice as it is now, the consensus is that 14 days is long enough to ensure you don't have and can't spread Coronavirus.

So, what if there were a scheme where people could voluntarily self-isolate from 10th December to 24th December, in order to then spend a few days with family over Xmas?

How many people would got for that? I'm pretty sure I would.

How could it be verified? I know I have Google location analysis on, so I could submit that as evidence. I've 'quarantined' several times over since March.

How else could compliance be demonstrated?

To make it work we would need the kind of draconian lockdown China had. All the different tiers are just prolonging the rubbish situation we are all in. Either do it properly or not at all.

If only Boris had shut our borders in January before the virus reached our island.

The World Health Organisation (probably under threat from China) said not to.

Well you'd think the Who would be right. They said they wouldn't get fooled again.

Just out of my interest, what would you have eaten if we'd shut the borders?

I’m expecting the two week ‘circuit break’ lockdown to happen 2 weeks or so before Christmas. Hopefully, if it does, businesses will have full support (especially as this would be a big time of year for lots) and people will stick to it as no doubt there’ll be a lot of ‘let’s do it for Christmas’ speeches leading up to it. In reality, I expect everyone will be packing out the supermarkets for Christmas food (think how bad it gets anyway because shops are shut for one day) and rushing around everywhere buying a load of tat to fill stockings.

We could plant spuds at Hillsborough. With all the **** that's been on that pitch over the years, it's bound to be a good harvest.

Less food. @JamDrop sized portions for all. And no more doubling up on the pies for @Stephen Dawson.

Nah. We’ll be in full lockdown of one flavour or another by the end of next week. You might be right about the end date of it though.

I read yesterday that the country will be in harshest lockdown messures by the middle to end of November. Apparently, that meant that most of the country will be in tier 3.

They're starting to bleat down in the 'virtually untouched by messures' South where the political map is blue.

    Interesting times ;)

Tier 3 isn’t strong enough though the scientists have already admitted that. In my opinion we need to either lock down property or not at all, these half measures don’t help anyone.

And lockdown takes more years life off the population than no lockdown does as well as absolutely destroying the quality of life of a few million. The choose is clear cut and the only reason it isn't done is the bad publicity

When they opened the schools and universities is when the 'explosion' occured. I'm not suggesting that hospitality doesn't have an impact but it isn't the main driver.

The genie is out of the bottle and short of a draconian lockdown which I would never advocate personally, I don't think it can be returned.

I’m sure Google location only works if you have your phone with you.... many people in this country don’t give a toss and would leave their phones at home, when they went partying at their mates anyway. The few who would comply would be as ineffective as a Wednesday defence....
