Credit to both guys allowing the fight to happen before fans are allowed back. Dubois should win by knockout and it will be a chance to see how close he is to mixing it with the very best in the next year or two. Hoping the link I am using doesn't go down
Why did I see the title and misread it as "Dobbin vs Joyce" and think it was a comparison of late 80s players?
Dubois is finished IMO. I cannot see him recovering enough to ever challenge the top guys. It reminded me of Jeff Lacy losing to Calazghe. Young upstart being raved about steps up in class and gets schooled by far older guy nearer the retirement age.
Dubois is still young enough and will certainly come back and cause problems for plenty in that division. Joyce isn't the most exciting or explosive boxer but he looked in great shape tonight and would have won on points if it had gone the distance I think.
Dubois eye did swell up bad and you could understand it making it difficult to box but you shouldnt give up like that. Rocky didnt "cut me mick". Its a big shame that such a good prospect failed at the first hurdle. I thought Joyce was steady but didnt fight with any style or excitement. Decent fight overall but feel a bit disappointed with how it ended.
Joyce is pretty exciting even though he’s slow normally. If you can win rounds just using your jab against a huge puncher why would you change strategy & increase the chances of getting knocked out? It’s a bit like Joshua in the rematch with Ruiz. He’s winning the rounds so why gamble walking onto one just to force a stoppage that still gives you the same W at the side of your name as a points win does.
