    Baby/young adder by the looks.

I wouldn’t have got that close to measure it with ten bob - their venom isn’t likely to be too dangerous but wouldn’t be pleasant!

Where did you come across it?

    Unintentional…

I wouldn’t be doing that though, imagine a venomous bite in that part of the anatomy….

Up Sutton bank, definitely a young adder I didn’t actually get close to it though, it was a nasty little bugger, I used a stick to ease it well off the path so nobody or a dog trod near it,

I’m not sure if it’s the same with this species, but one of the most common snakes over here, the Rattlesnake, are said to be very dangerous when they are young.

Not a particularly nice story. So apologies to anyone if upset by it.
We were in one of those shopping retail parks on international drive, Orlando, Florida. And heard this rattling. Looked over and this street cleaner with a golf cart type vehicle, had garroted a rattle snake with a length of wire. Tied to the back of the vehicle. Apparantly they come out into the open during storms and floods. It struggled for a while then eventually died.
We had some amazing thunderstorms whilst we were there. Lightning that I only thought happened in old black n white films.
We were going to drive over to Daytona beach one day. But the city was under water on the news report the day b4.

I believe Tampa is known as the Lightening Capital of the World. I once flew over from San Francisco and then we turned south and headed down the west coast of Florida to Miami. The light show was hypnotic, probably enhanced by 5 hours of G&Ts on the flight over. I also commuted SFO-Orlando for 2-3 months a few years back, arriving mid afternoon in Orlando. The zigzag slalom approach to avoid the thunderstorm clouds was always interesting. This was without the G&Ts, as I then had a few hours drive north to the customer site.

Quite spectacular. Fortunately most of the massive downpours happened in short bursts. Driving through one on the interstate, rain was so heavy and bouncing off the road. we had to stop, We couldn't see through the screen. Once it subsided we saw big animals strewn dead across the highway. They'd been trying to escape the deluge.
One morning was spoilt at Animal kingdom it bounced for a couple of hrs they had to evacuate the park. And if lightning was occurring 30+ miles away. Some of the big rides in parks on other days were shut down. Even though bright sunshine at the venues.

That's tiny. Didn't realise Adders were that small. Same size as a fifty pence piece. It's amazing you even noticed it. I'd have just thought it was a worm.
