When I read this post I thought where's is the salt. He looks younger than me, he has more hair than me,fitter than me.I am now depressed
When I said working in a Lighthouse in Norway, I actually meant living (and working). He cycled there from Kendal. #TeamsLikeBarnsley
In my experience, you're f****d if you're looking for work beyond 50. And also, don't get involved with 'Fit Reds' if you're above 36!
Find your USP, work for yourself and never look back. I'm afraid from your skill set you will only find employed jobs paying poor wages. Make your own way.
I am on just above minimum wage at the moment and getting by. Further education is apossible course action. but what ? Iknow I am not helping
This is on the lines I am thinking. Its not about earning lots of money but job satisfaction. Your post shows there is something out there for me
Vote Labour towd yad because under this" UKIP" prim minister Teressa May there will never be nowt for thi, these b@stards want such as us down and slaves. My wife is 63 and carn't retire till she's 64 under this terrible government, she should have retired at 60 until this tw@t Ian Duncan Smith and his detestable mates took over Works and Pentions.
In the 90's (a long time ago I know) I was employed to help people back into work. I used a program called occupations to help people determine future career paths based on their responses to a multitude of questions related to their likes and dislikes in certain situations. It proved to be a very useful tool and opened up their minds to opportunities they had never previously dreamed of. Having identified possible career paths the next step was to match their skills and personal attributes to determine the more suited avenues for progression. I don't know if this still exists.
There you go Owd Lad, see if you can find a provider and have a go at it. The biggest obstacle to progress is often a closed mind and the fact that you have started this thread tells me your mind his already open and that really is a good start.
Whereas both my wife and myself will die at work whilst doing 100 hours a week between us to pay for the scrounging shysters that labour have encouraged to thrive. Well pay for our 3 kids and all their requirements whilst the "I'm owed a decent living or I'm suing" brigade, unsustainably funded and encouraged by labour will get everything they need crisply gift wrapped and payed for by the likes of us. Please don't misunderstand me though, I dispise the Tories even more than the labour surrender monkeys
Well owd lad - tha sounds proper fooked to me If I was you I'd probably throw myself into the river Dearne Although make sure it's a deep part that you can safely drown in - it would be terrible if you jumped in the shallow end and bumped your head or twisted your wrist or something like that to add to all your other problems. So take care in what you are doing
By the way - don't try jumping in the river Dearne from the bridge down Grange Lane at Cundy Cross A few years ago I tried to throw Philip a pet goat into the river here - and he just went and bounced off the bridge and landed on the banking - banging his head and breaking one of his front legs. It cost me nearly £200 in vet bills that debacle
You probably are good at maths. I taught maths up to L3 and only managed L1 on a recent test. You lose your maths skills if you are not using them all the time. All you need is a refresher course. Have a look at the Khan Academy. Its free and you can start at 1+2=4, If you need to. On the job front you need something steady at your age. Van driving, Customer service, or how about bus driving. The training is usually free. I've retired, but I'd like a 20 hour job to top the pension up.
It seems an obvious suggestion, but have a look at companies who are recruiting to top up their staff between now and the new year. The big retail outlets are probably all doing it without making it too obvious. I've just landed a PERMANENT job with Marks and Spencers and I honestly was not even looking for a job! My partner spotted the advert on one of those recruiting web sites and applied, so I thought why don't I do the same. It was really just to see what happens and I went for interview having done virtually no preparation at all. The result was that I passed all their online tests, did well in the role play situation and impressed the interviewer who must be over thirty years younger than me. They told me there and then that I was in, and wanted to know whether I wanted temporary (up to December 31st) or permanent. It's a bit scary in a way as I have been out of salaried employment since leaving the Civil Service five years ago. I didn't think I wanted another job. But, just like that, I've got one. Just going to see how it goes. I can leave with a week's notice anyway, so nothing to lose. The big down side of it though is that I will be scheduled to work every other Saturday but I was told that it is simple enough to negotiate with others to swap duties. I'm missing the Bristol game because it is day two of my induction and I have to do that. But then I will just have to hope that I have co-operative colleagues! Oh - nearly forgot. I am 63 so it is NEVER too late!
