    1. Does anyone know who took the first team for our away match at Aldershot on October 28th '72?

Apparently McSeveney had gone by then but Johnny Steele isn't credited with the win in his managerial stats.

    2. Same query really. Exeter City 1-1 at home in April '73. Neither Iley nor Steele are credited with it in their stats. Who was in charge?

1 According to Grenville Firth's official history that was Steeles first match in charge.

    Hi Bostonwayne

    Thanks for that.

If that's the case the managerial stats in most publications must be incorrect as they don't credit Iley or Steele with these games.

I think I've sussed the mistakes in the book for that query. Thanks everyone.

    Now then,

Tim Ward left on 4th Feb '60.

Johnny Steele not credited with being in charge until March 7th.

Who's in charge for the six games in between?

    Hi Gooder

A committee comprising of Joe Richards, Diggle and Raynor picked the team for 6 fixtures from Halisfax away to Coventry home

I think I have sussed out all the Manager dates with the exception of the period prior to Angus Seed where there are 4 games unassigned.

    Thanks Turvey.

The name Matthew Walker crops up on websites for the 36/37 season but isn't mentioned in any books on our history that I've got.

Doesn't really have much of an online profile himself either.

Yeah I thought it was a bit odd not to have been mentioned in any books. Thanks again for dispelling it.

Incidentally, how many league games do you have Angus Seed in charge for? I've got 374 (from March 6th '37 at Chesterfield to January 24th '53 at Sheff Utd)
However the books I've read say 338/339 (cant remember exactly I dont have them with me right now). Not sure where 34/35 games have gone missing.

Also, I thought that Peter Sant was in charge for exactly 7 full seasons of 42 games, which would put his total league matches at 294, however he's credited with something over and above 300. I'm at a bit of a loss really.

    Hi Andy

For Angus Seed I have 375 League games. He first took charge in the Villa game 27 Feb 1937 and his last was as you say A Sheff United in Jan 53.

I agree with your figures that Percy Sant's was in charge for 294 League games plus 17 FAC.
