I asked him how much longer he'd be out, he reckons he'll be good to go in a couple of weeks. good mobile unit I think him and Armstrong/Watkins could do a job for us
Certainly a good impact sub for last 20 mins, if we have sort of game we had on Saturday. Not sure he'll be a starter this season with competition from our main 4 strikers, but if we have injuries, who knows.
I think he's every chance of being a first team regular this season. Our frontline guys are alright but there isn't one of them that's cemented their place as a must start even though we are nearly halfway through the season. Hecky can't get a settled front two because nobody is making a big enough case to do so. After every match people on here want changes up front for the next game. Now it's people wanting Bradshaw in friday night. Payne offers something different that Winnall/Armstrong/Watkins/Bradshaw doesn't.
I was impressed with the lad during the preseason friendlies and his substitute appearances earlier in the campaign. It's a crying shame Stefan picked up his injury when he did just as he seemed to be finding his feet at this level. I'm dead chuffed that he'll soon be available for selection, as he has a different style to our other strikers. I'd be reluctant to throw him in at the deep end by picking him as a starter just yet, as I feel each of our front men bring something to the table with the correct service. Initially, I believe he can again be used as an impact sub. After that, if he impresses as he did before, then he can provide Hecky with another option.
I know there is a lot of criticism that many of them are very similar, but they are quality players. I thought Armstrong had a good shout for MOTM on Saturday & think he should be starting vs Forest, with one of the other 3. I too liked what I saw of Payne so far, but think he'll just be an off the bench option for now. Hope he proves me wrong though....
Hecky thinks his best 2 strikers are Winnall and Armstrong and I think he's that sort of manager that will stick with them no mater what, when was the last time these 2 brought us 3 points, its time to give Bradshaw a run of 5 or 6 games to score the goals because these 2 are not scoring but he'll not, same with Kent and Hammill, Kent might score 2 in a season Hammell will score a lot more. As for Payne he's no chance of getting a start a bench warmer at best, only hope its not favouritism.
Four matches ago, when we won 2-0 at a previously unbeaten at home Brentford and both lads got on the score sheet.
We all had our favourites for starting upfront but I can only believe that Hecky will pick who he believes is best for each match - his livelihood depends on it.
Hecky in my opinion has no favourites. Hammill rightly dropped after petulance for example. He's the boss & I'm right behind him.
But since he's kept playing Kent with Hammill on the bench we've dropped a lot of points. By punishing him for what he did by dropping him he's weakened our team and that's shown in our recent points tally with wins and goals both hard to come by without him.
