It's irrelevant that they've been on a bad run, we usually help the opposition end those in spectacular fashion. The reality is they got our best player and our most promising youngster, they probably spent more in January than we have this millennium, they pay wages that makes what our players get look like chicken feed, their budget is from a different planet, but we stuffed them. Well done Barnsley, impressive and then some.
Well summed up Jay. Football is a team game, and without a team spirit, cohesion, and effort then money can only do so much. Personally just feel something special is happening at Barnsley. Players are performing out of their skin. Large part down to Hecky, but reckon he would be first to say he is just one of many that is making things work. Players grafting, improving, and getting the chance at the big time. Soon that chance may come with us. As long as we recruit more players willing to graft at their game than players we sell for big money we'll keep improving. We still have a few hidden gems I'm sure Hecky is polishing up - Josh Kay, Jacob Brown, Ryan Hedges. Then in the summer, when players are free agents, academy graduates are let go, fringe players are let go for a fraction of what they are worth... then I think we'll have our pick. And we'll invest a couple of million on players and their wages that can help us push on even further. This club, not just the team, keeps on surprising us, keeps on doing us proud.
As I was leaving the ground I heard a Villa fan explaining to his mate that what Barnsley have is team spirit, everyone knowing their role as for Villa a shambles. The defending tonight was top notch everyone of them played a part. Yiadom back on the right hand side which is quite obviously where he likes to be.
