I think Thurnscoe or Goldthorpe could have beaten Hull. Err nerr, arm on radierr farv larv, serr let's gerr. Culture my fcking arse. There's more culture in the pound of **** I've just dumped in the toilet.
All a joke. Ain't they City of culture 2017? Long way off that. Places with high crime rates usually win
Well, as we're only the 2nd city to receive the award (after Londonderry), that's clearly a load of ill informed ******.
I live here for university and it's a great place. Really proud of the city getting recognition. It's not the richest city in the country and is a bit rough and ready at times but the folk here are superb. It's got great history with Wilberforce and Larkin. People are quick to have a go about it but it's usually people that haven't lived here, I couldn't have chosen a better place to come for 3 years. If you're ever up here for uni JLWBigLil I'll buy you a coffee in the Union.
That's very kind of you, mate, and I really appreciate your gesture, thank you. However, I've now left Hull University and will start at Leicester University early in the New Year.
Now, now Don't be like that, it's unbecoming of you. The Archaeology Unit of Leicester University is definitely the one at the forefront of our discipline at this moment in time, with regards to the excavation and identification of the remains of Richard III.
Re: Now, now Only joking mate, look where I live... As long as you're enjoying what you're doing! How did you get in to archaeology in the first place?
What you normally find is that people will pass comment on a place, based on what they hear/see in the media and have probably NEVER visited and experienced the place itself. I've spent quite a bit of time in Hull and the City/people deserve the chance to show they are a City of Culture. Hull has been hit hard, in terms of industry reduction and unemployment, but it appears to be fighting back. Good stuff relating to Hull - a Premier League team, two Rugby League teams, Humber Bridge (great engineering project), the Housemartins/Beautiful South, William Wilberforce, cream telephone boxes rather than traditional red, remains a key UK Port, museums, theatres, university, Dean Windass, etc. I say get off their backs, let them enjoy the limelight and support it by a visit.....it's only an hours drive.
Re: Now, now Some good pubs in Leicester and its true Leicester Uni Archaeology is at the forefront of car park excavation !!
Re: Now, now It's been a fascination of mine for donkey's years. Then, in 2009, I was made redundant at the steelworks but able to take my early retirement. At the time I was initially feeling low and depressed at the thought of being on the scrapheap at 50. I spoke with Stahlrost and Windy over the matter. They said I could either feel down, or look at it as an opportunity to do something else with my life. Thanks to their foresight, I chose the latter. Crystal then suggested as I'd always loved archaeology, why not study for my degree in it, perhaps even go for my Masters? This I've done and, hopefully, some time in the future I'll obtain my qualifications and look for work within the discipline.
Oh it's like that is it? Hull not good enough for you Nah seriously, good luck. Remember you said you were at Hull uni but weren't about much.
Yes there's also TheDeep here. People are very quick to judge without knowing the full extent of the issue. It's not the easiest place to grow up in I'd imagine but they're doing their best to make it better. From what I've heard the locals are very excited by this news and and it gives them a chance to show what they've got, and the stage to build on to improve it for the future. Good luck to them I say.
