I certainly think it was a mistake to have aidy white as our first choice left back. Think he will be gone in the summer too
Thanks for posting that I agree I think we should have kept him - looked better than Elder and Kpepawa have this season and as we know how fragile White is and that Bree was always likely to move on I think he would have got decent game time. Shame he went to a club I dont think should exist but other than that I wish him every success
I think he'd be in the team now if we hadn't let him go. Particularly in view of White's injury-prone nature. Certainly grew into a decent full-back last season
I entirely agree. He had some superb games for us last season. I think we conceded roughly 1 goal every 2 games when he started. He is quick, enthusiastic, very athletic and very versatile. I don't think he has the natural talent on the ball of Yiadom or the attacking flair of a fit Aidy White, but I think he is better defensively than White and much better all-round than any of our other current options.
Very good article. Personally, I wish he'd have signed the contract offered to him last Summer. There's no doubt in my mind he'd have played regularly in our first team this season. Unfortunately, he decided to leave. However, I do believe Andy Yiadom has proved to be an excellent replacement and is a better player.
i think he might have played a few games for us looking at how the season has panned out, he wouldn't have let us down either, however im convinced we have a better right footed left back in yiadom, aidy white when fit and bree were always going to get in ahead of him at full back good luck to him in his career
He played his part in a wonderful period for us. Two defining moments stick in my mind. The obvious one being that last minute winner he scored against Peterborough. But what really endeared him to me was a passage of play in the match at Bradford, which was the game when I genuinely started to think that we could be doing something special. Up against their decent right winger, in front of the away end, he put in three blocks in quick succession, up and down off the ground each time, to prevent a cross coming in. Relatively trivial stuff, but a big impact. He's someone who genuinely deserves whatever he can get out of the game.
Great article and it just shows that you should never give up, whatever walk of life you happen to be following. I was sorry to see him go, like everyone else, but we will never know how good he might have been for us at this higher level. Chances are he would have stepped up a couple of gears like Yiadom has done, but we cannot say for sure. As ever I trust our management team to make the decisions on who comes in and who goes out, and that is what they did. At least George got a good move from the point of view of being nearer home.
We did offer him a contract, but it wasn't as much as he wanted and he asked for guarantees we couldn't give him.
He was offered the absolute minimum we were allowed to offer him to get compensation for him turning the deal down & been under 24. We never wanted to keep him. George Smith was offered the same deal. The club then decided as a gesture of goodwill just to release them both so we wouldn't receive any compensation for either of them. Hindsights a great thing & I would've kept him as 4th choice full back behind Bree, Yiadom & White but things could've worked out differently. Bree may have struggled at this level & White may have stayed fit meaning Williams would have played barely any games. Good luck to him, he was very good for us & seems a nice lad
One aspect with regards to George, if he were to return to Oakwell with MK Dons (or any other club, for that matter), I believe he would receive a warm welcome from our crowd. The fans have respect for him & appreciate his contribution to us winning the JPT and promotion.
Absolutely criminal letting him go, our incompetent board strike yet again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Do you have inside information on the inner workings of our football club, or do you just enjoy any and every opportunity to criticise people you don't even know doing a job that neither you or I will ever do? You could just give the constant carping a rest and try to enjoy this brilliant ride that we are on. I don't suppose you will though....
I suspect more went on behind the scenes than is let on but I do miss him and his father "observer" was always a decent poster on here too. I don't doubt if something could have been done it would have been and he'd be here now
I seem to remember his father posting that there was some kind of back story to his departure, which I don't think ever got told. I was genuinely sorry and surprised he left. Maybe someone believed he wasn't quite talented enough to play Championship football. It certainly took him a long time to get a regular place in the MKD side. I met him a couple of times and found him to be an extremely nice, articulate and intelligent lad, who I felt would learn and develop quickly. He was an integral part of our success last season and hugely popular with the fans for his 100% consistent endeavour. He may make it at a higher level and I hope he does. I will always have very good memories of him.
